Hello everyone,

I'm about to take the step into FF with a 6D kit + 24-105 f/4L from B & H
So far I always used filters to protect my lenses. What would you advise?
I do not have a huge budget but I do not want to buy some low end filters.

Here is what I found:

- B+W UV Haze SC 010 Filter ($39.99)
- B+W UV Haze MRC 010M Filter ($71.75)
- B+W XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter ($89.99)

- Hoya UV Haze NXT HMC Filter ($53.90)
- Hoya Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter ($127.90 -> $84.99)

Is the SC010 enough or should I get a better model ?

Thanks !

Spend the extra $30 or so and get the MRC filter. The Multi Resistant Coated filters are much easier to clean than the non MRC ones. No sense going to all that trouble, L lens, B&W filter, and then getting a non coated filter.

All my lens have B&W MRC, F Pro filters. Enjoy your new toys!

I you are going to do a filter, I second the B+W MRC F-pro 010M (the $72 model you listed). Multi-coated filters eat less light than single-coated and in my experience the B+W's MRC are easier to clean than the Hoya HMC's (I have one of the Hoya HMC's on my 100L - I don't like it much because it is a pain to clean compared to the B+W F-pro's I use on all my other lenses). No need to get the slim filter because vignetting shouldn't be an issue on the 24-105mm (also, the lens caps on the slim filters can be a pain to take on/off and generally aren't as secure as regular lens cap, either).

The B+W MRC in F-Pro mount is a good choice (the $71 one). Skip the single-coated (SC) one - it's cheaper for a reason, you want multicoating.

The F-Pro is thicker than the XS-Pro, but from my testing you can actually stack an XS-Pro on an F-Pro on the 24-105L with no affect on vignetting (even two F-Pro mounts stacked gives less than 1/3-stop more vignetting. So, no need for the thinner XS-Pro mount with this lens.
