They likely read the CR post a couple of weeks ago. These places pick up rumors and repeat / modify them so that you never know exactly where they started.

Thanks for trying but that's not what I meant. Canonwatch rarely publishes anything new, it's usually a report of some other website or some deals (I assume it's a profitable gimmick). I posted to specify that Canonwatch specifies their sources, so it's not hard to find where the rumor is actually from.
