I just compared it with similarly looking Leucophyllum species and despite very similar they are not checking all the points! I'm pretty sure you are right - Texas sage!!! Learned something today!

Thanks MSH411: I think you are right (again!). I know one similar plant from my neighborhood that is very similar but with pure white/red flowers. It fits to the same name as the flower from today. Probably different varieties.
