Looks like the Brown knapweed (Centaurea jacea) to me (European ) but in USA the Centaurea americana (American Basketflower) is pretty close... Most probably the second one if in wild!

Great shot! The curled petals brings to mind the craft of quilling. I'm glad you notice things like this!

I think I never posted this one. Probably because I didn't know what it is. Botanical Garden, pretty big tree with a lot of rather big, aromatic flowers (unfortunately it seems to be fruitless...).
Today I finally figure out what it is: Calabash Nutmeg (plus many other common names) - Monodora myristica.
