So I just traded my 7d for a 5d mkii plus a couple hundred bucks. I must say that I'm astonished at the IQ of the 5d, the viewfinder, and how wide my lenses feel now! I was never truly disappointed by my 7d, but now I understand why people love the 5d so much and can also understand (better) why canon didn't do a major overhaul on the new 5diii sensor. I'm curious, the door for the CF card isn't spring-loaded on this camera... Are all mkiis like this or was the spring broken in this one? Also, do most of you simply use the middle focus point and recompose? Are any of the points more sensitive than others (besides the center point)? Anyways, thanks in advance for the answers!

No, the CF card slot is not spring loaded.

Most of us just used the center point exclusively, because it's much better than the others. The AF system in the 7d is superior by a good bit to the 5d2, that's what most of us were complaining about for a few years. Now, with the 5d3, we can't complain about that anymore! So we've found other things to 'complain' about :P

Ha! Yeah. I Couldn't afford the mkiii or mkii and I found a guy looking for a 7d and was willing to trade and jumped all over it. I really liked the autofocus in the 7d but have wanted a 5d for a long while. Hopefully I don't miss it too much! That makes me feel better that the door wasn't broken. Thanks for the reply!

Yea, the IQ of the 5d2 is pretty outstanding, I went form a 450D to it, and it blew my mind. I'd recommend getting a better MF screen (Eg-s I think it is) so you can fine tune any focusing you want. I always kept meaning to get one, but never ended up doing so. The one thing to watch out for is if you're shooting with a shallow DOF, if you AF then recompose you might not get what you want in focus because you are changing the plane of focus.

Yeah i think I will do that. I have the 50 1.8 and 50 1.4 and it's pretty easy to miss a shot after recomposing at 1.4 or any aperture with a shallow DOF. My next purchase I think will be a Manual focus 35 1.4. A screen would be great.
