doubting Thomas, haven't heard that one. i called bs on the 16-18mp full frame and i was wrong, not going to change name though...

certainly wont be buying this camera though (wouldn't have anyway at $7000)

i don't think 18mp is enough. Storage is dirt cheap why not have more mega pixels

Good job indeed by CanonRumors.

But I must say Canon also did a FANTASTIC job in preventing news leakage until several days before the actual announcement. In contrast, we already know the D800 specs way, way before its actual announcement which has been delayed due to the Thailand floods. :)

To be fair, CR also received news from 7 to 8 folks who claim "there will be no new DSLR in 2011."

Oh, look what just got announced? :)

That's what's tough, technically there will be no DSLR in 2011... however it WAS announced. I may have to read between the lines better.

Craig just proved that he has a better source(s) than PB, NL (who doubted the CR3 rumor as late as yesterday), and all the self-proclaimed experts on the DPR forum. Hats off to you sir. 8)

When Apple-watching got popular (after the iPad was released), it suddenly became cool to be a rumor guru and everyone with a twitter account became a part-time tipster.

There is no age, IQ, experience, or even grammar :D filter on the internet and anyone can send an e-mail.

2011 has been Canon's turn for immature (err amateur) sources for rumors, so your BS meter has to be on at all times. This has always been my favorite place to read about Canon, and you can see this last year about all the crap that had to be sifted through just for basic tidbits . . .

In the end, trusted sources are where the real information comes from, and they only open up under certain circumstances. Everyone else just talks when there's nothing going on . . . and eventually someone gets clever and makes up lies.

Thanks for filtering for us CR.

I'm not much for handing out kudo's to a rumor site for getting some information correct. And I'm also not much for hammering on a rumor site for mucking it up either. Both have happened here on CR recently.

In a world where praise is all too often given for mediocre accomplishments, my proclivity is to reserve recognition for those extra-ordinary efforts.

The only effort in the immediate subject was to post some information given to someone by someone and call it CR3.

The true kudo should be for running the site and giving us all a place to come and share our thoughts and passions about photography and...rumors.

It really looks like Canon did not intend originally to announce the camera so soon, its not even in production yet, except for the components. Apparently, they perceived some advantage from making a announcement now, maybe a ton of preorders?

The D4 will likely be a similar body, so who's to say its a good move or not.

I would have thought that Canon learned a lesson after the long lead time announcement of the big whites, many things can happen to spoil plans and turn a potentially winning plan into disgust of would be buyers.

I think CR guy did an outstanding job in terms of judging how this was going to come out, and putting his chips in the middle of the table at the right time. that being said, I'm not going to be upset in the future if he doesn't get the call right -- at the end of the day, CR guy doesn't sit on the Canon executive board, so the fact that he get as much in-the-know as he does already is amazing.

I hope the other thing (besides how dang good CR is) is how good Canon is at shutting down the leaks. tons of people were claiming it was "impossible" that such a large corporation could effectively count on its NDA's and employee loyalty to keep a huge announcement so tightly under wraps. turns out, Canon DOES do exactly that. that being said, someone still passed it on to Craig ...
