Help: 24-105L making faint noises

Brand new 24-105 and I just noticed a small little noise. Every time I half-click my shutter for AF, the lens does it's job but also makes a faint sound. Its almost as if something inside it's motor is still spinning. Yes I do know what an AF motor sounds like and thats not the "normal" sound. Anyone have these same issues?

I too had a similar query when I got the 100-400, that lens make a fairly loud and audible clunk when the IS is activated.

The 24-105 is fairly quiet by comparison. The short buzzing / whizzing sound is most definitely the IS engaging.

Try the 300/4L IS sometime - an even louder clunk you can hear and feel, and during operation the IS is sort of a low growl.

You're not wrong about the rowdy IS in the 300 f/4is! That's a perfect description of the sound. You can hear it from half a block away! But a small price to pay for a wonderful lens. I should never have sold mine when I upgraded to the much quieter 300 f/2.8is.

The 300 f/4is must have been one on Canon's earliest IS efforts. It must have been mid 1990's when I got mine. And apart from getting quieter, hasn't IS matured in the meantime?

Yes! I'm hard of hearing, when I got my 300mm f/4, I could feel the clunk, and hear the growl. I was ready to send it to Canon, but I remembered reading about it and did a little investigation.
