It's literally like a flat ribbon cable and 1 pressure sensitive button. A bet a 3rd party will try to make one if canon isn't suing people.

it doesn't really matter. it's not a portrait grip anyways. and it's the shape of the grip that probably more determines if they are going to place controls on it or not.
I suspect Canon wants to discourage people from using the grip as a portrait grip because that would block airflow.

I think It is just to enable 8k 60 fps RAW. I am fine with that. Keep the costs low. Very few people want these specs.

Wowww....If Canon wants to price R5II above $3999 i.e $4299 etc, then it may be having at least one of these features?
- 60 MP Stills on a stacked sensor?
- 16-bit RAW photos to rival Hasselblad X1D?
- 16 Stops Dynamic Range? (True DR & not marketing BS)

I guess the Canon R1 may be 45MP camera, so as not to be left behind. The R1 has to remain valid for the next 4 years at least.

The R5II + cooling grip makes it larger and more clunkly looking to me than the R1. That makes me think that either I won't bother with the cooling grip (as I haven't done video or astrophotography), or actually getting the R1 instead of the R5II. I shoot portrait shots more frequently than landscape, so I wouldn't want to take the cooling grip on/off to deal with it that way. I never thought I'd consider the R1 due to size, but this has made me consider it now and I'll have to think about the difference in # of sensor pixels vs whatever better things there are in the R1 vs the R5II. Maybe I'll have my "old" R5 and new R1? It's interesting since 2 options come out at the same time which (for me) compete against each other.

It is also rumored that there will be a portrait battery grip for the R5II, separate to the cooling grip. This may be more refined to your liking.
