For you old timers, who've seen lenses come and go, how much do you think an EF 600mm f/4 ii will go for in excellent (9+/10) condition in a few (2-6??) years? I'm surprised how much 70-200 2.8 ii's have dropped in the last few months, but wonder if this more rare lens will hold up, or drop 50% like the others?

These are not comparable categories. Canon has sold far more units of the 70 - 200 f/2.8L II IS lens, and there is a new lens on the market, 100-400L IS v.II, that may attract those who tended to shoot at the long end. There may be a temporary blip of increased numbers of the 70-200 reaching the used market.

Unless Canon comes out with an insanely great 600mm f/4 DO lens, the 600 vII will hold value when in good condition.

Difficult to say really.
2 years ago I bought a used Canon 800 F5.6 L IS at a bargain price - but now I would be lucky to get my money back. About the same time I bought a Canon 300 F2.8 L IS and could expect to make a healthy profit if I sell it. Additionally I wish I had bought a Canon 500 F4 L IS 5 years ago as I could have beaten it about quite a bit and still sell it for more than I would have paid!
It's a lottery. Do you really want this lens? I do - it is a cracker! If so buy it, use it, love it - you will be waiting quite a long time for something significantly better.

typically 70-90% of the current purchase price of new unit, I think. but it also depends on the condition of your lens and any warranty left over.

super telephoto lens can be harder to sell due to smaller pool of users. may takes weeks or months to find a buyer who will not depress your asking price.
