I’ve never talked this much in my life.

I sat down briefly with James Beltz at PhotoTips.biz and talked a bit about the EOS-1D X. I learned some stuff from him about the camera and tried to sound all technical and stuff. I’l like to discuss the camera again once I’ve actually used one.

From what I know from a Digital Image Processing class, color does help a lot when detecting human faces.
Although we have different color, and environment color is so different from time to time. In color space, skin colors still cluster into only a very small subset, actually very distinct from the rest of the world.

A random paper I found may help

look for "Skin modeling"

I am still a bit shocked that the camera has lower MP, but if the high ISO is anywhere close to the hype, it would be worth it.

I am concerned that it is said to no longer autofocus with a f/8 combination of lens and teleconverter. I could AF my f/4 lenses nicely with a 2X TC and my 1D MK III.

This is a big take away for birders or others who need longer telephoto lenses, and even 800mm is not long enough in many cases, the 800mm f/5.6 will no longer AF with a 1.4X TC and the new body.

I'm getting an impression this body will disappoint a very large part of the 1D & 1Ds users, as in photographers who bought 1D bodies would be unhappy with the resolution, and the photographers who bought 1Ds would be unhappy with the reach and inability to focus at f/8 (= long teles with TC).

What am I missing ?
