Can anyone tell me whether or not they use the ITR function on the auto focus of the Mk II...I have heard that it may slow down the fps on the camera if you activate it.....

First of all you can switch iTR on and off as you want in the AF4 menu. So you decide if it is used or not. iTR does only work in zone, large zone and automatic selection. And yes, as stated in the manual, when iTR or iTR face recognition is switched on, it may take longer to focus then when iTR is switched off. However, no where is mentioned that the fps will drop by this. I never noticed that the fps drops in that case, but being honest, I never use automatic selection, maximal zone or large-zone.

Also on the 1Dx I never noticed that fps might drop because iTR was switched on.

I guess I am trying to figure out why I would use it. I don't hear or read anyone talking about using it. Thanks for your response. This is one helluva camera and while I loved my 1DX and my MK IV this camera does seem to be a marked improvement. Since I have only been on one trip since getting it I am still trying to figure out all of the things that it does that are an improvement over my 1DX....The higher ISO range is amazing and the video, which I have started to shoot has extraordinary quality.....lots to learn about this camera though!

If you don't mind, share your insights as things get cleared up since I'm planning to buy and never owned a 1DX although I had a 1D4 for about 3 months and really liked it. I doubt that I had optimal settings on the 1D4 but what I did to familiarize myself was to simply go through every menu item checking out what the options were and what they seemed to accomplish when I changed them. I didn't find the manual to be too thorough at commenting why or in what context a particular setting might be desirable.

Maybe a thread on how to get the most out of your 1DXII might be worth considering??
