Is 1D Mark IV boring or almost perfect?

Now you've got me curious. I shot one baseball team during the summer that had white pants on what I would call deep red jerseys. I remember one game in particular that was very bright...the kind of day where you can shoot ISO 100 and 1/1000 shutter the whole time. I'll go back and check for any funny jersey tones in the set, but none stick out in my mind [funny how you can remember specific events :-) ]

There is no such thing as a perfect camera, though the MkIV ticks an awful lot of boxes.

Sure, we would all like a car that had Audi styling with a Subaru motor, Volkswagen seats and a Mercedes steering wheel, if you get my analogy.

Definitely there are a few specs on the 7D that would have been cool on the MkIV but really, isn't it all about getting out there and producing great images for your clients, your Flickr page, your lounge-room wall or shots of your kids for their grandmothers Brag Book?

I like cameras that I barely have to think about, that I understand completely and know will deliver. Better cameras will be coming along soon, but right now the MkIV is a mostly brilliant, tough as hell camera which is built to hack the daily grind and deliver the goods day after day.

I think I get your analogy, though I've always been a Chevy guy :-) Thankfully the 1D4 isn't -quite- like the GM vehicles I've owned lol. The point of my OP was to try and understand why so fewer threads seem to get started for the 1D4, and all those who replied confirmed what I suspected (statistically fewer 1D4s [price], it just works, etc).

Like the 1D models before it (even back to the EOS 3), the 1D4 is just a great workhorse.

+1 on that! When I re-started photography again about 18 months ago now I almost got the 1DmkIV but then decided on the 5DII. While I am happy with the 5DII, I had the opportunity to shoot for a few days with a 1DIV this summer and I really liked it - especially for shooting moving objects! Beyond specs and all, the 1D series are trully exceptional bobies. This is probably why so many of us are eager for the 1DX, even if we have the morgage the house to get it - lol

I agree! I didn't think Canon would be able to create a camera worth replacing the mk4 for, but along comes this FullFrame Monster that does exactly that.

I don't have that kind of money for other things, and I buy all the cheapest stuff of everything else. I haven't bought new clothes since the 90's, but do I blink to spend 8000 dollars ( a bit more expensive here in Norway) on a new camera? Nope!

I wonder how many 5DIIIs there are in the world vs MkIVs? Or for that matter Rebels vs MkIVs? 10 to 1? 100 to 1?
I think that is the biggest factor.

A while back when Canon published that they had sold 50 Million EOS bodies, and 70 Million EOS Lenses, I realized most EOS owners only ever have 1 lens (or 1 Canon lens I guess). I have 11, and 2 teleconverters so I guess I am pretty abnormal.

I would love to own a MkIV, but can't justify the cost. My lens collection seems to grow in value, while bodies just decline.
