Mark on pictures using new Canon 1100D

I've got a Canon 1100D
There's a mark I can clearly see when I take pictures

The mark appears in the same location on 2 lenses I have
One is brand new - just tried for the first time today

I've looked inside the camera with the lens taken off (haven't touched anything) and can't see any smudges on the mirror

Is there a fault with the camera??

Omar, what is on the mirror does not appear on the photo.

What that seems to be is a simple dust spot on the sensor that can be cleaned easily if you're handy (with specialized products)...but knowing the rist I would suggest you can either send it to canon et go to near camera store that offer these services.

I use this , http://visibledust.com/products3.php?pid=707 but I have to admit, it's always a scare and risk when I use it


I cannot see the exif but what is your aperture setting on this photo ?

Yep - that's dust on the sensor. My 1D X came with several of those. I use an Arctic Butterfly 728 Super Bright.

Get yourself a Rocket Blower to begin with. Google how to clean your sensor. Sending a camera to Canon every time you get a bit of dust will really add up your postage costs.

Only if you cannot blow away the dust should you consider having it professionally cleaned.

Your sensor likely has a few thousand pieces of dust, and will have 500 more 10 seconds after its cleaned. Fortunately, most dust is far too tiny to see in a image. It takes a magnifying glass to see the larger ones.

i called canon and they told me to send in to an approve place for cleaning
which is fine, except it's going to cost me to post to them!!

the second one seems a bargain. is the first one much much better or something?
or should i not buy either and save my pennies on buying something more professional?
(i've decided to take the plunge and buy a 60d - just making a post on this now asking a question)

why are you 'scared' of using?surely they are built to be robust enough to cope with light toughing by a cleaner?

i put on macro setting and used a canon 100mm IS macro lens
but... how do i change the aperture setting in macro mode? do i need to be in manual?

and what's an exif?
(ok - so i'm a newbie - i admit it!)

EXIF is the name of metadata your camera saves about the image, in the JPG files it creates.

So as well as the image itself, your camera creates JPG files that have data about the camera model, lens, exposure time, lens focal length setting, exposure compensation offset, flash mode, white balance, etc. etc..

All of that lot is in the "EXIF data" in the image file.

On most/all computers, if you right-click one of your JPG files, and select "Properties" or similar, you can get to see
the EXIF data.
