The speed of the type A CF express cards is half that of a type B CF Express card.
No, the available bandwidth is twice. The cards can't actually write that fast. They are faster than Type A cards but not 2x as fast.
That double bandwidth comes because they run two PCIe lanes instead of one. That means more power consumption, and that in turn means more heat generated. Type B was (and remains) the wrong choice to use in compact ILCs.
In an ideal world R5 Mk II would have 2 CF Express Type B CF Express card slots, preferably, CF express 4.0.
No, in an ideal world all these cameras would have dual PCIe v4 based CF Express Type A slots. That has enough bandwidth to max out the write performance of the CF Express cards while consuming even less power than CF Express 3.0 Type A.
Sony making the correct choice on CF E slot type is one more reason the battery life is so good on Sony ILCs.
