A bonus shot from today. ISO 4000 full size JPG

wow, even though that's JPEG, that looks great. it's hilarious to me that your impromptu shot of your dad looks 1000 times better than any of the "official" mark III photos i've seen.

how could they release such terrible images!

Agreed. I can't fathom what Canon was thinking.
I think it's partly because they're trying to show all of the fetures of the camera, so leave noise reduction on. IR also left the NR on, which is probably why the JPEGs don't look anywhere near as good as the RAW images. If previous cameras are anything to go by, then if NR is switched on, even the RAW images seem be affected slightly by NR, even though they shouldn't in theory. Certainly when I switched NR off in my quick test (couldn't put my own card in), the MkIII looked sharp enough at ISO25,600 and only slightly noiser than the MkII at ISO 6400. I deliberately had an item of black/dark clothing in frame the Canon t-shirts are quite handy in that regard :P), although it wasn't quite as dark with my MkII.

I just came back from a photo exhibition. I played with the new Canon 5D mkIII (with 24-70 I and 70-200 II) . I shot some portraits from iso 1600 all the way up to 25600. I was impressed!
Here I uploaded 2 100% crops at iso 1600 and 25600. Sorry for not uploading the whole image but the model (my dad) is not very comfortable about it ;D
I also played with Canon G1X but didn't have an sd card to save the files..
Polu oraia Akis,, I can't wait to get my 5D III I called Katerelos and put myself down on the waiting list;) have you heard any prices yet here for Greece? from what I heard probably 3,200,00 euro but maybe cheaper.
