New 5d3 to use with my 7D or Replace 7D with 7D2? Which wide angle lens?

This is my first post. I'm a long time reader and value the knowledge and expertise of the members.

I currently own a 50D and 7D. I am a serious hobbyiest. I primarily take photos of birds, wildlife, landscapes and the family. I do no do any wedding or serious portrait photography.

My current lenses are 10-22, 50, 100L, 24-105, 70-200 II, 28-300 and 100-400.

I've been waiting for the 7D2 because of by birding and wildlife photography and because I already own the 10-22 for the landscapes. We are going to Yellowstone this winter and doing an African safari this coming summer.

I've now been thinking that, if I keep the 7D rather then selling it, then a 5D3 may be the perefect compliment to the 7D.

My quesitons are (i) would you buy the 5D3 and keep the 7D or wait for a 7D2 and (ii) if I owned both the 5D3 and the 7D, should I keep the 10-22 for use on the 7D or sell the 10-22 and replace it with a 17-40 for use on the 5D3 (sorry, but I originally wrote 16-35 instead of 17-40)?

I have the 5D3 and 7D; they work very nicely with each other. I often have them set up with complementary lenses so I can switch bodies instead of changing lenses.

Is there something you don't like about the 10-22? Or are you just looking to have one body ready for landscapes and the other for reach?

I've used the 16-35 and I like it for when I need that focal range and f2.8. However, for landscapes I'm a bigger fan of the 17-40; it's an incredible lens for the money. I'm usually shooting landscapes stopped down, so the 2.8 doesn't gain me anything. And if I need to shoot wide open, I'd rather use a prime.

Replace your 7D with a rumor? Canon just did a major firmware update on the 7D. This is a very strong hint that a 7D MK II is out a long ways. The Rumored Nikon D400 has not appeared either.
For close to the price of a good wide angle lens, you can buy a refurb 5D MK II and your existing lenses may be wide enough.

7d is an excellent camera - keep it but sell/part exchange 50d and get the 5d III if the budget allows. You have a good set of lenses so these bodies will complement each other.

If you are satisfied with 10-22's IQ, keep it for your 7d other wise get 17-40L for landscape etc on the FF and use longer lenses on the 7d for when you need the extra reach.

As someone who's just got a 5mk3 in addition to my 7, I have to agree with the other guys...They complement each other really well.
I'm now doing portrait sessions with 70-200 2.8ISII on the 5d3, and an aging 20-35 2.8L (non USM forebear of the 16-35) on the 7D. (50 1.4 in a pocket for if really shallow dof is called for).

I'd be tempted to sell the 10-22 and go for a UWA that works on the 5, - if you're new to Full Frame, the IQ difference is staggering. 24L may be an option for you, not quite so wide as either of the zooms....but it gives you another shallow dof option.
