Thomas Hawk - 9:47 AM - Public
I just received an email from Canon CPS offering CPS members an opportunity to see the new Canon 5D Mark III at two seminars this month, one in Atlanta and one in Chicago.

The email starts off saying "The camera doesn’t begin shipping until next month," so if you think you'll be getting a 5D Mark III this month you're probably dreaming. Looks like we may be in for a long wait to get this camera now that it's "officially" released.

Might be a miscommunication somewhere, considering:

I have confirmed March 22, 2012 as the for sale date in both Canada and the United States. Cameras will arrive before that date to retailers, but cannot be sold until then.

Somebody is wrong...

That was my thought.

Typical internal corporate confusion.

I tend to believe the March 22 date more because it looks like an active response to a dealer issue.

(though perhaps it is an optimistic date)

Sounds a lot like when somebody started a thread prior to the announcement of the MDKIII stating that a canon rep confirmed the MKIII would NOT be announced on March 2nd..... but here we are.

I'm going to stick with what CR says.

It's annoying when these type of supposedly "corporate" emails show up stating bad news. How can the news go out that there are 2 factories pumping out 5DmkIII's and that retailers will be receiving shipments before March 22 so pre-orders will begin to be filled on March 22?... Then out of nowhere some supposedly official email for an event states that the 5DmkIII will not be available on March 22... >:( Gotta filter out all the BS even after the camera is officially announced? These clowns... lmfao ::)

I got the the same email. While it did say they were shipping next month, it also said this:

Along with the EOS 5D Mark III, we’ll also be showing early production samples of the:

• EOS-1D X
• Speedlite 600EX-RT
• Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT
• Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E6A (for EOS-1D X)
• GPS Receiver GP-E1 (for EOS-1D X)
• EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II
---------------------
I really think this one is getting blown out of proportion. This isn't an official announcement. It's just an email.

Henry's Canada sent out a 5D3 announcement earlier today that said "available late March in limited quantity."

More info here: http://www.henrys.com/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Camera.aspx

I think the 3-22 date is legit. Albeit, for a small number of people who are 1st on those lists.

The local shop near me in Salt Lake said they will be getting "more than enough" to fill the first batch of pre-orders on the 22nd.

Spoke to B&H yesterday to add an SDHC card and another item to my order. I was told to expect the camera w/i 3-5 weeks depending upon when I ordered it in relation to all of the other pre-orders (I ordered free delivery 5-7 days). So 3 weeks from yesterday is a week and a day after the 22nd. Craig was spot on with the release date info after rumors were flying that the 2nd was not the date. So I'll stick with his date of the 22nd as the initial sale date with orders being shipped thereafter.

I noticed today that Amazon would let me change to 1-day shipping. When I ordered there wasn't any option available but standard. Not sure if that indicates something big changing?

Maybe they were waiting for a confirmation before they put that option up, it would have been a pain in the ass to do countless partial refunds for the people that picked it. I'd say it's a good sign, and Canon knows they have taken forever with some products and I believe they'll do everything in their power to come through on the 22nd.

2 weeks from today it's going down! YESSSS YESSSSS BAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHA
AHAHAHAHAHAHA YESSSS!

Sorry i'm just a little excited. Just a little.
