I bought my sixth 40D yesterday along with the kit 28-135 lens. Today, my refurbished 70-200mm f/2.8 MK II lens arrived from Canon, so I went out in the windy, overcast weather and quickly snapped a few handheld shots at different apertures and ISO 400.
Not much care was used, but the camera and lens seem to AF ok, I wasn't using AI servo, so there could be a little misfocuse due to me moving back or forward at f/2.8.
I'll be trying it with my 5D MK II and 1D MK III and checking AF accuracy more closely when I get time.
I bought the 40D for a very good price, and plan to keep it permanently installed in my studio where I take photos for internet use, and even 10 mp is overkill. I have it rigged up to a pc and large monitor and use manual focus and settings. Ihave had several, five others, if I remember right, and all were excellent. I seem to keep coming back to this camera.
Now, I need a close focusing zoom lens, I sold my 17-55mm three years ago. My product photography table is only 3 or 4 feet deep, so the 17-55 was perfect, but I may get a FF lens instead. I tried it with a 17-40, but did not like the results, and it needs to be longer. I used 24-105 on my 5D, but it will not be wide enough for the 40D.
A 15-85 sounds just right, but I would like a FF. Besides Canon lenses, I will only considerTokina. i'll take my time and think it over, I do have a 17mm prime if I need wide.
