Canon has filed a patent that uses more of the camera as a heatsink to cool the electronics and most likely the sensor. I think this would be especially useful for video applications. 4K perhaps?

When that angled item, #113, flaps at 10-12fps you get the extra cooling of the sensor. :P (Yes, I am that silly.)
No, you are not! You have humor and gave me a good laugh. Thanks! ;D ;D ;D

But, of course with that very small volume of enclosed air between lens, mirror and sensor, I think the cooling effect will be almost not recognizable. ;)
And please don't forget the thermal expansion within that space and the lens mount, that would f*** up all the AFMA and other things people do to gain sharpness and resolution ;)

I would translate "heat imaging device" into a pyrosensor equipped camera to take infrared images of heat sources ... but maybe it's a translation error and "hot imaging device" was meant.

Might be 4k but might also be the need to cool the imaging device integrated (hopefully!) electronics to decrease read noise ... or its adressing both?!

A small Korean company makes several types of Peltier cooled Canon cameras, they are perfect for imaging
astronomical objects, NOT video.

I wich I had the cooled 5Dmk 3... but $5000,- :'(

Here the cooled Canon 5 d mk3: http://www.centralds.net/cam/?p=6070
Yes a complete rebuild of the 5 dmk3!

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few generations of cameras with some means of channeling heat from the sensor to the outside of the body. Maybe they could run a heatpipe up to the hot shoe so you could attach a heatsink to that.

That would be actually hilarious - seeing photogs with a great ribbed copper cubes/cylinders above their camera. Some might even put a fan on top of it and real hardcore ones will be using liquid coolers, like a minifridge :D
