If the XXD series goes Mirrorless what mount do you think they will put on it?

I was reading a bunch of talk about the conflict with having the M- mount and the R-mount. I was wondering if the XXD (80D) series went mirrorless, what mount do you think they would put on the camera.

The M is currently the body for APS-C, the M5 is the XXD version. It is always possible that they would put a APS-C sensor in a R body, but unless they come out with RF-s crop lenses, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Correct. The question is whether they would have two different crop mounts running simultaneously.

I voted M for the 80D but I'm more interested in what way the 7D will go. I'm guessing that 7D owners are more likely to own longer lenses and L glass than ##D owners? If true ##D would go M if not it would go RF.

For APS-C sensor, M mount makes more sense. Look at the existing M system now, it is as compact as it can be. It can use practically ANY lens that has ever made since 1930’s with the proper adapter. That cannot be said with the RF mount. Also the RF lenses are HUGE compare to the M lenses. If Canon put his mind into it, they can come up with M lenses as good as L lenses. There is no reason why Canon cannot have two mirrorless lenses lines. They are doing it now.
