Primelens 24mm for landscape?

EF 24 f2.8 IS. Don't discount the 28 f2.8 IS.

Either of these lenses will give much better resolution at wider apertures without the field curvature issues of the 24-70 f2.8 mki. Also much more handy on the 6D.

Plus you get IS so you could hand hold a landscape shot in low light and still maintain enough dof, especially with 24 mil. In fact with the insane high ISO performance of the 6D it opens a whole new shooting world without a tripod !

+1. All of recent new EF IS lenses (24, 28, 35) are excellent. The 24 and 28 are closer in size (compact) while the 35 f/2 IS is a bit larger. IS is nice, but it is not nearly as effective at these shorter focal lengths. I get about 2 stops.

Another +1 for the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/Pro-Optic/Vivitar/? 14mm f/2.8. There's now a filter holder for it, as well, with one graduated ND and one solid ND available.

You might see what is available in the used market for the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8, truly an amazing lens. Sharp corner to corner at f/2.8, great color and contrast, minimal distortion, just a really nice look. For a bonus, it is great for astro-landscape. I got mine for approx. 1200USD, which is somewhat close to your target price. The Zeiss and the Canon TS-E 24mm are the kings of this focal length for landscape. I don't think that you are going to be able to land a used TS-E for anywhere near your target price, though.

Hello Daniela,
What do you expect from the prime that Tokina 12-24 can't give you for landscape? What aperture would you be shooting - f/8 until f/11? Is sharpness accross the frame (thus including the borders/extreme borders) a must?
And - compare with previous shots - what is the most focal length you have used for landscape. You will know whether it is 24mm or other FL. Did you compare the 24 f/2.8 with the Tokina at 24? And compared at f/8 until f/11? TDP may have such comparison. I did not check it.
