Question for the techies: EOS R with one of the adapters = full usage of APS C lenses like Sigma 50-100 1:1.8 ?

Sure the 28-70 1:2.0 sounds nice but for the beginning I would like to go with the Sigma 1.8 Zooms I own.
Any chance of the EOS R and it's flange distance being the vehicle to make all my APS C lenses full frame capable?

Uh... yes ... even worse. Found this:

When attaching an EF-S lens via any of Canon’s new R-series mount adapters, the new EOS R automatically switches to APS-C crop mode.

What's the source? And what does "crop mode" even mean? (I can guess... it might save an image file with the smaller dimensions. Does it also switch to a magnified view in the EVF?)

Can't remember where I read it, but in Crop mode one has "only" 11,6 Mpixels left. Don't know, if the view in the EVF will be magnified. Could imagine Yes, but only with lenses that are recognized as EF-S.
