Canon shows off EOS R5, RF 100-500mm lens under glass at WPPI

Canon's upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera, the R5, is on display at the company's booth at the 2020 Wedding and Portrait Photography International expo in Las Vegas alongside the new RF 100-500mm lens.

The R5 is looking good! I was expecting the rf100-500 to be smaller than the ef 100-400. I guess the extra 100mm reach takes away from a possible smaller size

The RF can be smaller than the EF by utilizing external as opposed to internal focusing. The 100-400 already has external focusing. For me, the best new spec of the RF is the half pound reduction in weight.

That's true. I will say the weight difference is what I love the most when using the Rf70-200.

Regardless of physical size, if Canon can shave of some weight with the 100-500 compared to the ef100-400, I'd be a happy man

Surely there must be some of these out in the hands of photographers right now - I'm surprised we don't know more.

haven't looked closely at the R, but seems the eye piece on R5 projects out from the body a fair bit? that due to the touch screen focus etc?

The R also has touch screen focus. But, yes, I saw a shot of the R5 with what looked like a 1-series style Eye Piece and that would be a very wise decision form Canon to implement.

The R also has touch screen focus. But, yes, I saw a shot of the R5 with what looked like a 1-series style Eye Piece and that would be a very wise decision form Canon to implement.

Hopefully this means we'll be able to use a Hoodman eye-cup for bright mornings and afternoons. I'm getting tired of forgetting my hat.

Both have internal focusing. The EF 70-200 models have internal zoom. The RF 70-200 has external zoom, as do both the EF 100-400 (both versions) and the RF 100-500.
