Refurbished Canon lenses

Does anyone have experience buying refurbished lenses from Canon? The 200 to 400 is calling my name. I know it has a one-year warranty, but will they have put the camera through a full series of testing and clean up?

Canon refurbs are excellent! I've purchased several, including my 24-70 f/2.8 II and 35 f/2 IS. The quality of both lenses is every bit as good as new. Go for it!

I pulled the trigger on the 200-400. I shoot a lot of wildlife and have rented this lens on several occasions - took it to Alaska and Africa. I had it in my cart showing in stock, but when I looked at the site after hitting the send key it was no longer in stock on the main site.

We will see.

Canon refurb program is excellent. Bought numerous items, never any hassle. Bought a 7D camera once that looked brand new and had FOUR shutter clicks on it.

I also bought a refurb 7D from Canon and was very pleased with the purchase. The Canon refurb store is the first place that I look for new gear. They often run special discounts at great prices, but product moves quickly. I highly recommend them.

Getting a 200-400 refurb is very difficult. They sell out immediately, and only show up every few months.

If you want one and see it, jump quickly.

However, not all is lost. You can likely get a new one from a Canadian dealer for a very good price due to the exchange rates.

Multiply the Canadian rate by 0.72 for the approximate US price (The exchange rate varies). That's about $8424 USD at Camera Canada. $500 more for a new one.

My new Canon EF 200 - 400 refurb lens will arrive tomorrow. Canon called today to verify my purchase and the lady upgraded my shipping to next day when she learned I was a Platinum CPS member. I am very excited. This lens will go nicely with the 1DX Mark II that I plan to order next month. I don't want a camera from the first manufacturing run and trying to play the timing game. I need the camera by June in order to prepare for an Alaska trip scheduled for July.

Its not unusual that there are a small number or even just one of the big whites in the refurb store, so you were lucky.

I have purchased many and every single time they have been as excellent as the new versions. I have bought L and non L primes, macro and zoom lenses. As with Apple products as well I always look at refurbs first. In fact I have a 200 2.8L on the way as we speak (type).

A little bit, but usually less than the savings you realized when buying refurbished in the first place. Some would prefer a retail box, but I'd rather have the ability to send it in if the 1-year warranty isn't up.
