DPReview has completed their extensive review of the brand new Canon EOS M6 mirrorless camera.

DPReview had this to say about the EOS M6:

Admittedly, if you’re not already bought into the Canon system, it is hard to ignore direct competitors that often pack in more features for similar money or similar feature for less; the EOS M6 ends up being a ‘premium’ option for those that really want it. Many of those rivals also have better-established lens ranges, if you don’t already have Canon lenses to adapt. But, in the end, if you do really want the EOS M6 you’ll be very happy with it: it’s a great camera in many respects. Even so, the lack of higher-end features combines with that premium price to keep the EOS M6 from earning our highest honors. Read the full review

We’ve spent some time recently with the EOS M5 and EOS M6 and we agree with what the reviewer is saying. If you’re already a Canon shooter, these new mirrorless bodies create a seamless transition between your DSLR and your compact camera system. If you’re not loyal to any brand or you’re coming from a fixed lens camera, there are probably better options out there for a lot of people.

I'm finding the M6 plus 11-22mm lens to be ideal for hiking for the sort of photos I like taking. Excellent image quality, and far lighter than an equivalent SLR setup. The price of the system isn't too bad given that Canon's 11-22mm lens is much cheaper than comparable lenses from Sony and the like. Also, Canon in Australia recently had a promotion where you could get 30% off a lens if you also bought a body. The 100-400mm lens plus the M6 worked out to be a pretty decent deal.

I agree with you; 11-22 is a unique lens that you can't find as good and as cheap with other rivals. I also have a question; if you have purchased M6+100-400 and tried it on this body, how practical is the focus performance?

Focusing itself seems good. Fast and accurate. However, the M6 wouldn't be my first choice of camera to use with this lens. Getting things in frame isn't easy with no viewfinder, especially when zoomed in a bit, and zooming itself isn't very ergonomic as the body is so small that it's hard to hold the body firmly while twisting the lens (at least with my large hands). Another issue is that IS is always on when the camera is on (unless disabled on the lens), and I can't help but think that that won't do much for battery life. It's a pretty decent combo for taking photos of the moon on a tripod though.

If I was interested in the EOS M system this would be my camera of choice.
But I am not. Main reasons:
 • Mot satisfied with the EF-M lens lineup. There are some other decent primes like the EF-M 22/F2 missing.
 • Too expensive, esp. the extra viewfinder that would be a must for me (No! I won't take the M5 because of size).

But having the 100D/SL1 and seeing rumors about a successor I know what way I'd be going in small ILC system.
