speed. it's 4x faster in e-shutter doing 12 bit - canon uses a ramp comparator, so the more bits the slower the ramp.
I know it's faster, and I understand 12 bit being the standard, and the performances are pretty good but, if we had both options, at least we could choose to get a full output of the sensor using electronic shutter. This way, we simply can't.
