Some thoughts on the 7D2...

I wonder if:

...the dual sensor technology does not limit Canon on the pixel density of their sensor developement, and that's why we 'only' got a 20mp sensor in the 7d2? We are in theory looking at a 40mp sensor here aren't we?

...this camera is not aimed at 'budget' sport shooters who cant afford the FF 1Dx? The 1Dx guys are not complaining about 'only' having 18mp's. So the prosumer gets a crop sensor 10frames per second 20mp camera for quarter of the price? Seems like a fair trade off to me...Canon seems to have this 'two camera' with same images quality but different hardware strategy, 5d3 vs 6D, 70d vs 7d2, and now also 1dx vs 7D2??

In my neck of the woods, South Africa, most keen photographers do wildlife, and I see many Eos apsc bodies in the Kruger National Park, mostly with long Sigma zoom lenses attached. I think they would just love a camera like this...something to aspire to even though the price here is just south of the 6D. Having the 7D2 will label you as a serious amateur with a bit more money than most :) ( after all a cameras is just 'male jewelery' for a lot of guys, isnt it ? ;D )

...how good the high iso noise is? I suppose that is the one question we would all like to know....But if it is substantially better than the old 7D then I suppose we could look forward to this technology trickling up to the FF models....lets hope so at least.

...how good this Samsung will turn out to be? And how it will compare to the 7D2?

BTW I had a look at a D800 and the Nikon 24TS yesterday and took some Raw images which I then processed at home and compared to my 6D files. Not the same image but I have shot enough 6D 24mm shift images to be able to do some sort of a comparison. I was mightily disappointed in the images from the D800...dont know it it was the lens or maybe photographers ignorance, Nikon is just so different from Canon, but they just weren't crisp and punchy like the ones from my 6D.... whereas I looked at some Sigma quattro images, jpegs from the web at Imaging resource, and they did impress me, far greater resolution than what I can get from my 6D, rather depressing actually to think how much more resolution one can squeeze out of an aps-c sensor...

Not sure why you're apologising Ivan Muller.

Seems to be a good few bullies on these forums who feel they have the right to ram their opinions down the throats of others.

Die fokken wys gatte! ::)

My opinion is that we're taking on a role that isn't ours, we are trying to be engineers. There's so many that post as if their understanding of camera components is far higher than that of Canon's engineers.

I'm buying a camera and walk in the veld and see exactly what it can and can't do. As I build my experiences with the camera, I will arrive at two kinds of conclusions: what works for me and what doesn't.

20.2mp is what it is, so let's explore it!
