The shop where I am getting the 1D X does not sell any spare batteries, and my Google skills seem to have deserted me over night. How much is a spare battery for the 1D X, and what model number are they please?

Thanks, sama. Checked online with the code and it seems the spare is around US$ 169. Cheers.

You can get a LP-E4 for $115 which works with the 1D X, or the LP-E4N which is $169 on a good day. Of course, there are cheap Chinese batteries which might or might not melt down.

got a pair and a spear of the LP-e4n I never needed more then 11/2 betters in a day but better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it

Really! Surely Canon Image Square in Indiranagar, Bangalore would carry it. If not, they can get it for you. I am assuming you are still in Bangalore.

No problems. At least if I ever do go to Bangalore, I now know where to go shopping for Canon stuff. Haven't been to India at all yet. ;-)
