What happened to the expected T4I/650D announcement expected at NAB this week? I currently have a Rebel XT, shooting mainly sports and nature shots. Any thoughts on whether I should get 60D or wait for new release?
Thanks!

I was just going to ask the same thing - I think I may shoot for a higher model but I want to see what the t4i packs before I make an informed decision.

If the best/only rumor was that it would be announced a NAB then this site is not much better than a flip of the coin at this point since the big industry event was not used to make the announcement. There are no other published rumors that I have seen that give any more of a precise time frame than that one.

Meanwhile, I might bite at a Mark II if prices were to drop since I have no other camera to shoot any video with at this point.

It's unlikely that the 650D will have a significantly improved AF over the 600D, because it would then cannibalize the 60D (which has improved AF and fps over 600D). If you're into sports you should be thinking about the 7D (hugely improved AF over your XT and 8fps), which will give you much more opportunities than you currently have. On top of that prizes for the 7D have come down considerably since it has been released.

I'd say its very possible that the 60D will inherit the 7D's AF in response to the D7000 which could potentially lead to some feed down on the xxxD line.

i think you mean the 70D.

Yeah sorry the xxD line, espeically considering the amount of talk about the 7D either being pushed further up market(perhaps getting 1D level AF?) or discontinued.

I agree, but I don't believe that the xxxD will get upgraded AF or an upgraded sensor before the 60D hasn't seen a significant upgrade and then the 60D would canibalize the 7D.

as akways, we get half-assed "upgrades" from Canon - why can't we have less camera bodies with real upgrades?

have a xxxD for the newbies, combine the 7D with the 60D into one solid xxD class, then have the 5D, followed by their xD? even these 5 classes are too many IMO

The 5D III sells for $3,500 - that's way above most hobbyists budget. I guess a solid xxD would not sell for more than $2,000, which opens a pretty big gap between xxD and 5D III and the other issue would be the gap to the xxxD, which will be around $700 (i.e. a lot of room for a 70D below a 7D II). I like that there is the 60D between the xxxD and the 7D.
Why not have the 7D II with a 22-24 MP APS-C sensor for sports, bird and wildlife photographers (with Digic V+ this should still have 8fps). The 70D with a 16 MP sensor for better high ISO noise and perhaps more DR. And the 700D with the old 18 MP sensor, but improved AF.
