teleconverter

never owned one or used one, i have a 70-300L on my canon body , i use to have the 100-400 but its gone and maybe in a year from now ile get the new 100-400 but as for now what would be my best quality 1.4 teleconverter to use? or should i just crop my photos? this will be mainly for airshows since i need that extra reach.

You do not mention which body, and that can make a difference.

While the 100-400L accepts TC's, the 70-300L does NOT. There are some kludges and it apparently works with some third party TC's, you should research first.

Except for the 7D MK II, crop cameras do not autofocus at f/8, and there are work-arounds, and some 3rd party TC's that sort of let AF Work.

That's one of the few Canon Lenses I have not owned, so I can't tell you which TC's work, but doing a online search will turn up a lot of discussions.

Personally I think I'd crop in your situation. Handholding shooting at air shows with the lenes you have the teleconverter is going to make them a f8 lens on the long end and that'll be to slow for fast moving action IMO. Maybe if you Pan or crank up the ISO itd work but you're going to get cleaner images without the teleconverter. If you were using a big white like the 400 2.8 or 500 f4 then I might consider the converter. But with zoom lenses with action shooting I don't think there great.

The 70-300 should not be used with canon teleconverters. They will work but at one end of the zoom range the internal optics will touch the TC and can cause damage. There are aftermarket TCs which will work fine but the sharpness will suffer. As mentioned you are better off just cropping the image and use a faster shutter speed.
