Time wasted... re: 7D Mark II

Now that the 7D Mark II has been announced and we know all the specs and pricing, do any of you look back on the countless threads and posts that you read and/or wrote as time wasted?

What could YOU have done with the cumulative minutes, hours, days, or even WEEKS you spent over the last few years reading/writing about what the 7D Mark II was supposed to be, what you thought it should or shouldn't be, what a "serious photographer" (absolute DUMBEST term ever) would require of it, what would cause Canon, Inc to implode immediately if it were, what would cause you to sell all of your gear, swear off photography, and move to Namibia if it were?

Yes, I am fully aware of the irony of this post - no need to point it out. The purpose of this post is to help us all to remember that whatever we say, whatever we think, whatever we want, shout about, get enraged over, etc., doesn't actually matter. Companies are going to do what they're going to do without our input and ESPECIALLY without our knowledge. Let's be honest, if our input mattered, we wouldn't be on this forum - we'd be hanging out with Canon R&D. So, don't take things so seriously. Just lighten up and enjoy PHOTOGRAPHY and leave the speculation and bickering to those with nothing better to do.

I agree. But lets be honest. This is a canon equipment fan site. Making threads and posts about canon equipment is pretty much the only purpose of this site. ;)

But I have to admit that the speculation on the new 7d has been a bit extreme. But it made for some pretty entertaining posts. ;D

from all the threads and the outcome... lesson learned for the 5D MK4:

24 MP
no wifi
no 4k
1DX enhanced AF with RGB metering sensor.
other stuff dripping down from the 1DX.

No time wasted, the rough specs have been out for 6 months, only those hoping for something that defies the laws of physics will be disappointed.

well yes.. i remember the multilayer sensor specs, quite high MP sensor and co. rumors ::)

thought im more disappointed about this rumor not coming true:

A lot of new lenses are coming, the biggest being a replacement of the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS. We’re told that could be announced as early as March, but availability will not be immediate.

and im still puzzled what this "historic" announcement will be.
something never seen in canons history.
don´t know if it was an "official" rumor from CR or something that was repeated on this forum until it became a rumor. ;D

I think that's a bit of exaggeration. I just looked back through the 7D Mark II rumors and that's not the case. KNOWN specs have NOT been out for 6 months. In fact, just 2 months ago specs were still all over the place. Is it 20mp? 24? 30? "High MP"? Wifi? GPS? Touch screen? New sensor tech that's going to be included on all DSLR's going forward? etc...

Spaghetti on the wall...

Except for no WiFi or touchscreen, it is what I expected... plus a few more AF points as a bonus.

no 4K.

what suprises me is that it´s 1700 euro.

i had thought it´s closer to 2000 euro.
but maybe canon is countering slow DSLR sales already.

No. It's entertainment.
+1, Not because you talked nonsense with your friends that you lost time. Sometime it is good to talk to someone even about nothing.
Not because your country didn't win the world cup that made all the pre-tournament fuss useless.
Besides, it was not totally a nonsense. It was entertaining indeed. It's excitement.

Not necessarily from Canon, but there is definitely some "defies the laws of physics" stuff out there. I had a chance to read a research paper over the should of someone on an airplane the other day, and they are definitely finding ways to capture/record/measure light in ways that seem like sci-fi by today's standards.

And yeah, as others have said, pretty sure wifi and a few other missing features don't defy the laws of physics.
