Transition from crop to FF.

This is probably better suited for the lens forum but what the heck........Even though I had been a 35mm film guy for many years, and Canon as well of course, I sold my film gear to fund my purchase of of my first digital camera, a Canon 10D several years ago. After feeling I needed to update a couple of years ago, I decided to go with a 7D. Again, another crop body. A great camera no doubt and I love it. Now, I just bought a 5D2 and it's been quite a little visual reaquaintance with looking through a lens actually designed for FF and adjusting back to where things were visually before crop cameras. My 16-35mm 2.8L Mk2 is just wow on my 5D2 while on my 7D I thought is was almost just barely adaquate for a WA lens. My 24-70 is also great on it as well. My 70-200 will probably be living on my 7D with the other two reserved for the 5D2.

I'm sorry, is this a question? Or an explanation of how you went from crop to FF? I apologize in advance, I'm just confused.

I did the 10D->50D->5D3 route, and I am going through the same relearning as you are.
Still miss the reach of the 70-200 on the 50D, but OTOH the 400/2.8 will be more usable on the FF than on the crop (640mm is rather massive, but so is the weight of the 400/2.8 ).

I have to agree, I don't really see a point in this. We all know that the conversation factor of 1.6 turns a 16mm to a 24mm and a 24 to a 38 or something like that.

You could probably find a decent crop sensor camera for the 70-200. If you are shooting subjects that don't move, you could suffice with a used t2i at 3 shots per second and one center cross type AF point.

If your target moves, then going back to the 50D isn't a bad option considering you could pick up a used one for around 500.

Field of view changes the lenses are still the same magnification. FF gives a wider field of view, crop gives the perception of a longer lens. There's no magic magnification conversion.
