Hi all,

I am planning to move to Canon mirrorless sooner or later since very long time in DSLRs, i stopped photography for about a decade now, so i hope i will return back with a purchase of Canon new cameras if i can, and i want to have two different cameras to be used in what i do or what i am planning to do later, which are sports and birding.

For those two subjects i know i want fast cameras, mainly i care about the fps and the battery life, any other factors aren't much big deal for me, but the main factor as always in anything is ..... BUDGET.

Now if i will buy two cameras in Canon R series, which two of following options you prefer to take?

1. Canon R1 + Canon R8 or R10

2. Canon R3 + Canon R7 [or R7II]

3. Canon R5II + Canon R6II [or R6III]

For sports R3 and R7 are more appealing to me, while for birding it sounds R5 and its versions are most favorable among shooters, while R6 is kind of a backup of anything and a capable camera, i consider R6 as mini R5 or upgrade of R7, the number is also in between, but in reality all cameras can be amazing over my old DSLRs anyway, i still have 1DX which is a remarkable camera and still capable of nice results, i can keep using it over R7 or R8/R10 as a backup second camera.

About lenses, for now i will keep using my EF lenses with adapter until i can buy RF lenses.

I still have a plan to move away from Canon and going into Sony or Nikon, i won't buy so many lenses anyway, for sports or birding i will get only 1 lens of any, long prime for sports or long zoom for birding, even some 3rd party are making lenses now so i am not forced to stay with Canon, i do have Sony mirrorless that i use it always for landscape and portraits and still life or macro and anything that isn't action movement subjects [sports, birds, wildlife,...etc].

You got quite a lot of useful feedback when you asked essentially the same question last December. Has something changed in the meantime that makes that advice no longer useful?
Honestly, even in 3-4 months things can change, so imagine more than 5 months, and i didn't buy that time as i didn't save, and when i come again to check out i see some news, now with that R7II could be release and even R6III then i also can change plans, mostly i try to buy the latest i can buy of the year when i am ready, but when i wait always something new will come, but sometimes not everything new will be the best option anyway, for example R1 mark II or R10 markII won't be in my plan as one is most expensive and the other is the lowest or least model, but in the middle like R3 or R5 and R6/7 are all almost best option as price to performance.

Next year i believe R5 MarkII will not have a replacement so it is still there, and R1, while R7 and R3 and R6II are all due for replacement, if i buy a camera last year or this year definitely it will be either R5 or R6II or R7, while R3 although nice for sports i feel like it is too much expensive to be an option, and only last year by October i got new salary income so that change things, as i ignored photography and focused more on Table Tennis equipment and Astrophotography equipment, almost done in both so i am back to photography only to see few new things are coming, i will wait until maybe December or January to decide, will see what i will find out or decide, until then i asked again to be sure.

I would suggest to make an R7 or R7 II part of your combo as it allows a bit more flexibility with adapter ( Speedbooster/Filter inlay/Gold Rim)
The R7 together with the dedicated smallrig cage is still smaller than most full frames and allows you to prepare with the rig for situations that differ from whats conviniend with a naked EOS.

Ok, i will wait and see if there will be that R7 II or not, i prefer to get R7 II later than R7 now/soon and i will upgrade it later.
