So the 1,4/50 will be an L lens. Good news!

If true, my money will remain in my gear fund. No interest in primes in this range, and unless the 70-200/2.8 Z offers something unforeseen over the current RF 70-200/2.8, it’s also of no interest. No interest in RF-S from anyone, my M-series bodies and EF-M lenses remain a great compact system.

Oh well…there’s the R1, and maybe I’ll yield to the temptation of a longer prime (85/1.2 or 135/1.8). Or maybe Canon will pull a lens-rabbit out of the hat.

My legit comment to Craig when he told me earlier today that the 50mm F1.4 would cost $2000.

Either that or we can fully expect Canon users to do this at Canon HQ.

That would make it more expensive than a grey import RF50 f/1.2 here in Europe.

2k for a prime (without IS) might be a bit too much to argue for me (and others).

The photo of 35mm is obviously taken from 35mm 1.4L II. They forgot to remove the II

Also I do not believe 50mm 1.4 will be an L since it will be very expensive and its price will be close to RF 50mm 1.2L It will also compete with it.

Since the RF50 f/1.8 is already €230, I wouldn't have expected the f/1.4 version to be below €1000, especially considering the Sony f/1.4 GM is €1700. I would have guessed €1300.

Hmm…I’m not sure this is the 50mm f/1.4 we’ve been waiting for.

I’d take a 50mm f/1.4 with a 1500€ MSRP, then proceed to buy it on a sale for 1000/1100€.

But a $2000 MSRP would translate into 2300~2500€ here in Europe, and probably 1500~1700€ on sale.

The thing is, we can get a gray market RF 50mm f/1.2 for 1700€, here.

They’re apparently planning to launch a 70-200/2.8 Z for a hybrid photo/video market, which will ‘compete’ with the current 70-200/2.8. These primes won’t have the Z designation, but perhaps they’ll have the clickless aperture ring like the 24-105/2.8 Z.

The 50 f/1,2 costs $2K.
If the EF 85 f/1.4 IS vs EF 85 f/1.2 is any precedence than a 50 f/1.4 IS L could cost $1,800.
Without out IS, I am guessing closer to $1K.
Non L with IS should be around $500.
Without IS, even less.

You could probably get a used RF 50 f/1.8 for under whatever Yongnuo will charge.
Then you would need to wait until cheaper used Yongnuos.

MY theory was it was some combination of cinema lens and photo lens.

maybe something like a RF 50mm F1.4L T1.7 frankensteinian monster child.

otherwise i couldn't really decide what a hybrid prime would be.

The original source said €2000 according to @ordinaryfilmmaker, hopefully that includes tax already.
