Re: PowerShot G12 Picture?

I find it odd that it doesn't say Canon on the front of the camera (not counting the text around the lens). I'm not sure that Canon has ever sold a camera without the logo visible on the front. Sometimes it's on the pop-up flash, but it doesn't look like that will have a visible front edge here. But that's a minor point.

The more significant point is the 16.1-80.5mm focal range - assuming they are keeping the same 5x FF equivalent range (28-140mm), did Canon really increase the sensor size from a crop factor of 4.6x to a crop factor of ~1.7x, the same as most of their dSLRs? I doubt that! On a G-series scale, the lens as pictured doesn't look capable of delivering an image circle at 16mm f/2.8 that's large enough to cover a 1.7x crop sensor.

I have no idea if it's fake, but the lens is huge and its focal length indicates an APS-C sensor.

Wow that'd be super awesome.
I've been holding off not to buy either G10 or G11, if it is indeed APS-C sized sensor, I'll continue to keep my 1D and use this as a carry-around camera and not going for some of the other cool mirror-less "EVIL" cams. :P

Re: PowerShot G12 Picture?

Good point on the missing Canon logo from neuroanatomist (and on the implied APS-C sensor which I really doubt).
Aside from that, that pop-up flash looks way to flimsy, that'd be bound to break off in no time.

Re: PowerShot G12 Picture?

When you enlarge the image, the "G12" becomes far more pixelated than the camera body. This makes me believe that it was put on top of the image and not printed on the camera.

Re: PowerShot G12 Picture?

SOOOOO FAKE!

There are spots around the "G12", and the resolution of the lens is way lower then the other parts' resolution. Definitely Photoshop, without question...

Re: PowerShot G12 Picture?

Looks like a 'shopped picture of a G11. The pop-up flash has been badly comped in (look at the unevennes of right side of the viewfinder bulge) and the lens is just a resized G11 lens, with 6 turned into 16 and 30,5 into 80,5. You can easily spot some artifacts near the bottom and the '1' in 16 isn't even the same size as the others!

I also noticed that immediately, it's looks fake to me. Also the light/lightning isn't correct.

The lens being a lower resolution was the first thing I had noticed as well. I do see what you mean about the "G12" logo too. And someone else mentioned the control ring...it does look a little, ummm, different close to the grip there.

I'm going to vote for fake here as well. Man, I was kind of excited for about 3 seconds there though...sigh :-\
