Way Too Soon: A Canon EOS R5 Mark III Wishlist

The software I use to import from camera to computer automatically creates folders for each calendar day based on the EXIF 'original date created' tags. [...]
Renaming on import has been a huge quality of life upgrade for me! I'm purely a hobbyist, so the only restrictions are time and motivation :) Like your system, I like to keep everything sortable by date:

20240808 1715 IMG_1456 Canon EOS R7 - Canon MP-E 65mm f2.8 1-5x Macro Photo at 2.0x - Electronic First Curtain Shutter - RAW - IMG_1456.CR3
20250412 1107 IMG_4986 Canon EOS R5m2 - Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM at 238 mm - 11.71 m - Electronic Shutter - CRAW - IMG_4986.CR3
20250625 2012 IMG_8446 Canon EOS R5m2 - Canon RF 100mm F2.8L MACRO IS USM - 0.25 m - Electronic Shutter - CRAW - IMG_8446.CR3

With a few extras: zoom lenses get their focal length added, for the MP-E the magnifcation gets added and when available, the focus distance as well. The original image name is in there twice, the first entry is to keep it chronologically sorted, the second one to make it easier to ID when the file browser shortens the filename.
This works very well for my macro+family niche of photography :)

serious question... how do you review such a high number of stills?
I assume that you are doing a lot of bursts but what would be the number of keepers/images shared after such a day of shooting?
I do shoot bursts, I use Lightroom to sort, and keep many of them (1/2 -2/3). I sort them by event. Usually takes about an hour to sort that many.

As in you use LR to manually go through and view each image to decide whether or not to cull? Or as in letting LR automatically "decide" which ones are "bad"? Does LR even have that functionality? There are several apps that do. I haven't used LR in years.

I'm glad that works for you. I'd go nuts with file names that long! :D  I try to keep mine to 24 characters or less to the left of the dot.

I have used an addon a couple of times, but was not overly happy with the results. I generally do it manually and only remove out-of-focus shots, then sort by event. With the R1, I have very few that are not in focus or otherwise bad.

It makes it more difficult to cull when you have to choose just the best from a set of very good shots.

When I tried Gaussian Blur in Photoshop, I got an error message "WTH is wrong with you?! Go see an optometrist you blind MFer!!"
I don't use Photoshop any longer, after Qanon informed me it was powered by radical leftists. Now, I'm only editing on MAGAshop, for its wonderful orange colors!;)

In hardware mainly these three
1. Better dynamic range and noise performance
2. Better eye-controlled focus
3. Built in ***

Software tho...
It should have ability to quickly enter "modes" say focus stacking mode, or hdr mode or what have you.
Within a mode it should be super simple to tweak everything, and then when you are done you can simply exit that mode.
No more going through main menu to turn on multiple exposures and tweaking settings to then only forgetting to turn it off.

And have it automatically override the necessary settings and return those after exiting the mode. Some features do exactly that if you bind them to a button, others don't.
Related to that, if you want to enable a conflicting feature, have an option to force it. E.g. automatically disable pre-recording when switching from HEVC to RAW in movie mode.

These are things I hope we don't need a new model for, since it's 'just' software :)
