We keep hearing about the Canon EOS R6 Mark III coming in 2024

@memoriaphoto Here are a few screenshots of some recent work I have in a folder on my desktop. Ranges from bright, dark, green, orange, blue, B&W, inside, outside, etc. For weddings, the results are consistently excellent. I never have to worry about the setting, whether it's indoors, outdoors, in a church, or any other location. Even at 10,000 ISO, the noise correction is flawless. In fact, my base ISO is now always set to 400. I don't typically shoot below 400 because I prefer how it lifts the shadows and blacks.

Nice photography really! Which lenses have you used?

Curious that Canon is getting left behind in megapixels, with only one camera (R5) above "24", after being the main protagonist in the early days.
the importance of megapixels isn't what it was. Going from 4 to 8 to 12 to 18 to 24 made it easier to edit your photos. Going higher will make it easier doing the fine details but the question is whether it's worth it or if there are other things that need more attention than the relatively small step from 24 to 32 MP. Especially when most will be viewing images at HD resolution on a monitor.

That is interesting. I remember I thought the R6 was too magenta in the skin but some say it has better output than the R5. The R6 needed 3rd party profiles when working in LR. Color Fidelity profiles are quite good.
I guess I’ve accidentally noticed this without knowing what I’m doing. I always moved the “tone” adjustment to +1 when using the portrait picture style on my family. Away from magenta.

What do I mean by color accuracy?

If you look at this review

It has a sRGB map showing color accuracy for the 1Ds Mark III. Maybe not meaningful if you shoot raw but a lot of professionals don't have time for a raw workflow.

Looking at the R5 review

That graph is not presented.

On the MASP dial vs top display debate, I wear reading glasses and have to put them on to read the top LCD display - I can read the MASP dial with my native, foggy vision. On my spreadsheet detailing the pros and cons of my prospective new toy, I have the MASP dial as a pro, the reliance of a top LCD display as a con - having both is useful...

TheNewCamera has a rumor about the R3 Mk II: “As per the latest information we have, the Canon R3 Mark II camera’s initial prototypes are in the lab testing phase with global shutter sensors with 24 MP Resolution. If everything goes as scheduled, the Canon R3 Mark II will arrive sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.”

Canon only doing 24MP is a meme at this point :) It reminds me of the years where it seemed that every Canon APS-C had the same 18MP sensor.

I am always really fascinated by discussions like this, and by other peoples' workflows. I haven't had a top screen since, well, since the film days. So I have just gotten used to it over the years. One thing I really like with the current crop of cameras is how easy they make it to adjust on the fly. And I LOVE the control ring for that same purpose. I usually have the shutter speed set to the front dial, aperture to the rear, and exposure compensation to the control ring. I almost think the top LCD is either a feature that would slow me down, or a feature that I'd rarely think to use. And then I also wonder how much that might change after actually having one.

I'm glad you're one of the folks that got it to work for them. We tried for a while and just couldn't find a flow, Certain editing styles work well with it for sure. For us shooting with the R3 just provides us with flawless natural colors that represent true color in pretty much every condition from rainy days, sunny days, cloudy days, churches, poor light, good light, etc. Random photos pieced together below to show for reference.

I found it annoying to change modes on the R because I had to press Mode first, then move the dial.
Actually, you don’t. I set the MFN button to cycle through the modes - and you can turn off modes that you don’t use. (Same goes for selecting via the dial). Don’t use “A” or “P”? Turn them off and you won’t have to scroll past them.

I have my MODE set to only display the 3 custom modes. (Av, Fv etc can be tied to a Custom mode) This means I can go from “landscape/General purpose” to “animal” to “macro” with no more than 2 MFn button pushes, and without looking. Completely reconfigure the camera without even taking my eye off the EVF.

I thought the top display would be a neat thing to have, but truth be told, I never look at it - especially since it doesn’t show the one thing I’d like to see: battery status, with the camera off. Fujis top displays are configurable.

Battery Status as a % on the top display would be very beneficial. Good point to make.

With the camera off, all it shows is “Mode” - which is a bit goofy. Being able to see battery status when I pull the camera out of the bag would be nice.

The XH2-S I rented for trial, prior to buying my R5, had a customizable display with about 20 items from which to choose, and black or white backgrounds. If I’m not mistaken, the display was visible with the camera powered off, as well. (Or maybe you had to push a button).
