Despite the "exciting" statistics being released since the D800 specs and sample photos, they are still only CR1 rated. Do you think we'll start seeing CR3 rated rumors soon, or is there still some time to go, for the 5D or possible 3D?

If they are building the rumoured 5D with faster fps, high iso and faster burst, I'd think they'd release it before the Olympics. All the pros will likely be using the 1DX, but the rumoured specs would make it a great back-up/second body. But then again, maybe not......

Given Canon's recent actions, I would expect to see something announced around the end of the month or perhaps in early March. It is very likely though that delivery will be some time out and like the 1DX samples from the new camera(s) will take awhile.

Right now if you compare the 5D2 with the D800 or D800E it does not look good for Canon.

So now we're starting rumors about rumors? ??? ;D

Haha! ;D Well, not so much that...I just wanted to get a bead on what the communities opinion on rumors and rumor quality was. I've also been watching the 5D III rumors for over a year now, and its been pretty chaotic. I had figured we'd start seeing more solid rumors by now, but they seem to be just as wild as ever. Sometimes, though, the masses just know...you know? ;)

I'd love it if it was announced soon, even if it was released farther out. At least that would stop the nail-biting curiosity about what the actual specs will be.

Its kind of ironic...the D800 feels like Nikon's very late entrant competitor to the 5D II...and if Canon can really pull off 45mp, then the competition is good. Thats just good news for us consumers. :D

...end of May of 2012 (25th anniversary of EOS!)

FYI, the EOS 650 was launched in March, 1987 - not May.

In May, 1987, they launched the EOS 620, an upgraded version of the EOS 650. So, if you're right and Canon marks the 25th anniversary of EOS with a 5DIII, will they stick to historical prececent and launch a 5DIV two months later? :P

Yes, maybe we'll start seeing 5D upgrades as often as we see Firefox upgrades.
