Where is 650D/t4i

Canon has released the SLR in the xxxD/Rebel-serie early every year now for the last couple of years.
But this year it’s really quiet about the 650d/T4i.
Does anyone know anything? Does the nuclear-tsunami-disaster have anything to do with it?
When can we expect the camera?

Most of us (and I the most :) ) are expecting announcement next week - on the 28th, or the 1st of March (25th anniversary of EOS. Their first EOS 650 was released 25 years ago, so perfect time to release 650d)

P.S. Others are expecting 5Dm3 (or similar) at the same time, so dont know if Canon will release both, or just one at a time.

The question is what can they take from the 7d 60d to upgrade the 600d to a 650d without surpassing them in main specs?

Digig5? this would make it faster than a 60d
New sensor? i dont think they want the best APS-C sensor in the 650d

In my opinion they need a 7dii first
Or maybe there will be a mirrorless system instead.

I know many of you are waiting in anticipation for the 5D III/X, and rightfully so.

This post might therefore not be of any interest to you, but it seems recently amidst the storm of CR1 rated 5D rumours that the camera I expected the most to hear about, and the one I expected to be released the most quickly, has kinda disappeared from forum posts.

i'm talking about the T4i (or whatever they will call it) - it may not be as exciting for many of you as the 5D. but it would still be nice to read some solid rumours about this body, and as the anniversary of EOS looms..... why are we not hearing more about this camera? :o

I for one would be pretty excited about the announcement!!

A Rebel on EOS 25 anniversity?? 650 was the first EOS SLR, so a heavy weight EOS body should be annouced IMO

At some point the xxxD series might surpass the 7D and 60D *in some respects*
Eg DIGIC 5, 60D's AF, wireless flash control etc.
Makes some sense to have the 650D released at the same time or after, of the 660 tips the 5D mark III's hand.

I understand that.

Could Canon release all (7Dm2, 70D and 650D) at the same time? They seem to be in for a refresh ~right about now or this year anyway. This could let them all use the new sensor, digic 5, and better/extra features added on 7Dm2 and 70D compared to 650D.

Has Canon ever released more than 1 camera at a time?

(My brain is telling me not to expect 650d before 7dm2 and 70d with the new sensor, but my heart believes that we will receive 650d first (because of 25 years since EOS 650 :)
I just hope it has new sensor and not just digic 5 (which is still good addition) in order to differentiate from 600d)

My 2 cents:

Canon will combine the XXd and xxxd line - and produce a high powered APS-C body in the $1,000 price range.
The 600d - 60d - are all much too close together to justify keeping them seperate.

The newer 7d will be the same "insides" in a more rugged pro body, with more advanced pro features, in the 1,600 range aimed at pro's who need the more rugged body.

Why would Digic5 make a 650D faster than the 60D? Both the 600D and the 60D use Digic4... The processor is not the sole determinant of the frame rate - in fact, it's the less important factor, and the main factor is the construction of the mirror/shutter assembly.

Digic5 would allow them to tout some improvements to the xxxD line (lower noise, more picture styles, in-camera CA correction, etc.). The point of the xxxD updates is mainly to keep the line 'fresh' for consumers, because last year's model doesn't sell as well at Best Buy and Costco.

The EOS 650 was a consumer camera, so a 650D would be entirely appropriate as an anniversary announcement. A couple of months after the 650, Canon released the EOS 620, up-spec'd with a better shutter (double the max shutter speed and X-sync speed of the 620).

In some ways, a 22MP mirrorless would be a logical successor to the T3i. That camera and a 'T4i' would be aimed at almost the same market segment and if the mirrorless came in at similar price point it would eat into sales of another DSLR in the Rebel line - which may have played out by now. The folks at Canon have made the occasional misstep in their rivalry with Nikon but I can't imagine they'd shoot themselves in the foot like that. Canon are a tad late to the mirrorless market, makes sense they'd want to make a big splash. If nothing is announced in the next two months it might well be kept under wraps until Photokina. I know what I'd like to see (22MP, ROI in video mode, easily removeable/interchangeable IR cut filter).....but Canon doesn't consult me. :o

Why are you comparing the 600D with 60D?
The 60D came out about 6 month after 550D witch is the one you should compare with. They are both using the same sensor.
So if Canon are doing the same now then 70D should come 6 month after 650D.

i too am very, very curious as to what the t4i can bring to the table. the t3i is just a wonderful, full featured camera. I even love the t2i just for the image quality and drop dead ease of use, + optional video. I LOVE my xsi, but ill be damned if i dont secretly want it to break so i can replace it with a t3i/t4i.

I just hope it comes with a new APS-C sensor. It would be a bust to see it with the same sensor for the third year in a row. Not to mention Sony has a new APS-C sensor and Nikon may have a new one later this year.

the crys go up where sthe 5D3 wheres the 7D2! and keep going...
now the day the first solid rumour comes out about the 5D3 its "where is my 650D dammit"

us canonites are never satisfied it would seem :(

I hope so, too, otherwise some 550d/t2i will find very soon a home. Still, I need to upgrade from my 1100D, and it would feel kind of ridiculous to do that by buying a new camera with the same sensor of the old one. :-P
