No.

The 1D/1Ds created product confusion amongst Canon's customers.

The 1DX is a unified product to remove confusion.

I use both the 1DMK IV & the 1Dx, I also have a 1DsMK III sitting gathering dust, there's no confusion in my mind, and the large majority of people that bought into the 1D line, bought for the higher frame rate that a 1.3 crop sensor made possible (and the perceived extra reach on a long lens), those that bought into the 1Ds line bought in for the better Image resolution of a FF sensor.

Why Canon amalgamated the line in my view had zero to do with dim & confused Buyers, it had more to do with the fact that Canon were spreading there eggs among three sensor developments, FF, 1.6 & 1.3 crop, it was a decision based on Market & Economics, nothing to do with how intelligent the chosen market happened to be, most people buying into the 1D line of Canon products are either professional, semi professional, well healed Amateurs or less well healed amateurs that know pretty well exactly what they want in a Camera body.

Why Canon didn't go down the path that Nikon did & continues to do where most Nikon top end Bodies allow at least 2 or 3 different in camera crop factors, Canon to my knowledge have never done that, which is a shame in my view, regards this point, I acknowledge some confusion.

I hope so. The userbase definitely needs to be re-assured that the next 1 and 5 series will bring sensors up to 2014 and not still be back in 2007. And it would also be nice to be assured the next 1 and 5 series will offer high quality 4k video (before people spend holiday money on something not Canon that does 4k video and use up too much of their money to get anything Canon in 2015).

The 7D2 provides less than zero assurance of such things.

I have to wonder if what we're seeing isn't just Canon switching from "Technological Arms Race" mode to "Long Term Survival" mode.
They've won the digital revolution, now they need to survive the post revolution world.

At what rate do you release new technology to ensure perpetual survival of a company?

Canon THEMSELVES actually never said the 1Ds and 1D lines were merged into the 1Dx. Read Bryan Carnathan's site. He doesn't even know.

" the Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera.* As the new leader in Canon's arsenal of professional DSLRs, the EOS-1D X will be a high-speed multimedia juggernaut replacing both the EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS-1D Mark IV models in Canon's lineup. "

I'm sorry, where does it say the two lines are merged?

You still won't answer my question. Where does it say THE 1Dx MERGES THE 1Ds AND 1D LINES TOGETHER? I'm not assuming anything, and all I'm asking is where does Canon state the 1Dx merges the 1Ds and 1D lines together and so far, in the last 2 years, nobody has been able to produce a statement where they say that.

Please don't take my post the wrong way. You obviously are in no way obligated to answer the question as it is not your responsibility nor is the burden of proof on you. I understand that completely. Thank you for posting the links, however, and taking the time to answer.
