It's going to be 4000 usd. I've seen some images that looks pretty insane at 1.4, like shorter L-primes at f4. I was going to buy it, but the lack of AF killed it for me, and I found something cooler ::)

It does look like the ultimate fast 50mm-ish lens for most aspects of image quality. Like most things, it depends on what you want if it is worth it. For example, I think if I was spending that much cash, I'd rather get the CoastalOptics UV-VIS-IR 60mm Apo Macro. Much slower at f/4 but it is corrected from near IR to UV!

I love fine tools, but then I have to be practical. Will it pay for itself, or is it just something I want and admire. Sometimes that's enough to cause me to spring for it. 55mm, however, is not a focal length I use very often, we are all different in the focal lengths we prefer.

Be sure its the right focal length, don't just buy one because its the best and then have it gathering dust.
