1. I'm more interested in the 45mm f1.2 than R6iii, since it's pretty much confirmed there's no stacked CMOS with R6iii.

2. Looks to be a nice camera. I will not be purchasing since I already have the R5 Mk2. If I did not have the R5 Mk2 I would seriously consider this camera for travel photography (landscapes, street) where having a stacked sensor is not a necessity.

3. I haven't read all the comments in the other R6III thread, so maybe it has already mentioned...
   
   But I'm 99% sure the photo from Alan Photo is just a mockup - an edited photo of the R6II. I think it is also confirmed by the new image from Canon France. Look at the microphone holes. It looks like they are on top. When looking at photo from Alan Photo they sit at the front just as they do on R6II.

5. Hmm we can see the memory card door like the R5, larger than on previous R6s, so I guess CF Express is confirmed.

7. I have the version ii and think, at least for me as a wildlife shooter and filmer, the only real gain would be the 4k120 fps (if the R6 mk iii has this feature ofcourse). For the money I have to add for the version iii I'll keep my version ii and wait for the R7MKii next year.

8. I am debating with myself whether to buy the R6ii which will be heavily discounted starting Nov. 7th - I'd be upgrading from the EOS R. I'd mainly do it for the AF system, but I'd lose crop ability. Since I do mainly wildlife and birds (in Southern Africa), I am also considering just sticking with the R and instead getting the RF 200-800 and upgrade to the R6iii on Black Friday 2026...

I'd mainly do it for the AF system, but I'd lose crop ability. Since I do mainly wildlife and birds (in Southern Africa), I am also considering just sticking with the R and instead getting the RF 200-800 and upgrade to the R6iii on Black Friday 2026...

   The R6ii is wayyy better than the R. Depends how urgently you need it though. On the photo side, the R6iii does not look significantly better to me than the II with the exception of pixel count. The II is a very good camera. Maybe you could also wait for an R7ii and get a 100-500?

    Yes, I could also do that. And it's driving me crazy, haha. Right now I have the R and the Sigma 150-600 - so upgrades are needed on both ends. The question is in which order. I do like the EOS R, it's just the weak AF that is additionally weakened by the lens and the adapter...

    If I were you I would always first go for a better lens. It is these that give you the best results. the R is maybe not the best option nowadays but if you compare it with camera's of the era before the mirrorless it is definately good! R7mkII with RF 200-800 (or the 100-500 plus converter albeit more expensive) and you have a top notch combo! And don't worry about the "low light performance" .. you are in South Africa my friend 😉

13. does any one know what the weight of the R6mk3 is versus the R7?

    R6iii is likely to be 60-70 grams heavier with battery and cards. Will that be a dealbreaker for you?

    I unterstand completely. In 2022, I went on a safari in Kenya. I was facing the same dilemma as you are right now. In the end, I decided to upgrade my 100-400mm lens with the RF 100-500mm and the 1.4 extender and I kept the EOS R. For most part I did fine and got great pics, but when I spotted a fast running leopard I only managed to get two sharp pics and basically 50 unusable ones. In 2022, prices for the R6 and R5 were still (also covid related) very high, so I opted the other route. The R7 didn't ship in time... my initial idea was to pair the R7 and the R. Oh well, still did good/ great pics.
    
    For you, depending on your budget, I´d consider the following scenarios:
    - get a R7 + 200-800mm and go with a two cameras. The R is great for landscapes and slowy moving animals like elephants and giraffes.
    - get a used R6 + 200-800mm and take a two camera set-up as mentioned above. The R6 AF is not on par with mkii, but still lightyears better for wildlife than the R.
    - sell the R, get the R6mkii
    - sell the R, get the R6mkii, sell the Sigma and get your dream lens.
    
    The price for the R6iii will be sky high for about 12-18 months. First cash backs/ discounts usually run at 250 $. Until it hits the price point of 2.200 $/€ it will be a while.
    
    In Germany, the differences between a used EOS R and R6 on eBay are about ≈ 400 €, if you're lucky even just 300 €. Maybe you could sell the R, get the R6, be for happy for now and get the R6iii for Black Friday 2026/ 2027 and end up with a great two camera set-up. That´d be my way to go. If I ever go on a Safari again, I´d definitely bring a two camera setup.

    Thank you for your insights. But I will keep the R for landscapes, astro and as a backup. And I know the frustration of trying to shoot moving animals with it. I'll upgrade the lens first and see what 2026 will bring to the table...

16. There are two things I am excited about: low light capability and the bump in auto focus. I'm strictly a hobbyist and I'm currently shooting a 6Dm2. Perhaps the r6m2 would be a big enough jump in both of those areas. Particularly the low light.
    
    Thing is, I mostly shoot my kids sports and they play soccer/futsal and basketball. I'm really excited to try the action priority settings (in concert with the low light boost for futsal and basketball).
    
    Only did a cursory search, but I haven't been able to find a ton of real world reviews about those soccer/basketball action modes. The reviews I did see say they're pretty good, but not earth shattering.
    
    In any case, super excited to check it out.
