The 2026 NAB show in Las Vegas begins on April 18 and runs through April 26. It used to be a show with a lot of big gear announcements from the big players, but that seems to have slowed down in recent years.

Canon has done a bit more recently for the IBC show in Amsterdam, and that show is in September, which is a better time ahead of the Q4 sales push.

New Cinema EOS Gear?

We don't get a lot of Cinema EOS information before product launches; it's a very different business than photography gear in how it's marketed and sold. I asked around if anything exciting was coming from Canon, and no one had anything to mention.

If we're going to see some kind of follow-up to the C300 or C500 series, it's not happening this week.

I don't think there will be anything the masses will be interested in. I have never heard about CINE-SERVO lenses ahead of an official announcement. Those tend to be $20,000 – $30,000 lenses and don't really move the needle around these parts.

Chinese Brands

It looks like the Chinese brands are going to be aggressive with lens announcements. Viltrox will be announcing two lenses for the show this weekend. We can expect a Viltrox LAB 35mm f/1.2 along with an autofocus EVO series lens. Neither will be getting an RF mount for the time being.

TTArtisan will be announcing two autofocus full-frame lenses. They appear to be launching a new lens series called NEO. Again, not for the Canon shooter.

7Artisans, not to be confused with TTArtisan is going to be announcing 3 new lenses later this week. There's no word at the moment what lenses will be coming and if there are any manual focus RF lenses planned. 7Artisans currently sells 8 RF mount manual focus lenses. I do like their 75mm f/1.4 and have used their 9mm F5.6. They punch a bit above their weight, but there's no value magic with the brand.

May is the month

May will be the month of excitement for Canon enthusiasts with the launch of the EOS R7 Mark II expected, and there may be a second camera coming along with it.

I spoke with one retailer and there is a worry that there could be product launch delays due to the world that we live in. I hope to have a follow-up on that in the near future.

For now, there isn't much going on other than working on a new Buyer's Guide for the site. It's not quite finished yet, a couple of features are turned off, but the bugs are being worked out and I hope to have a v1.0 going soon. Any feedback is welcomed, please use the contact form or the private messaging on the forum. I don't want the forum thread to be taken over.
