Canon E-1 Plugin (From Planet5D)
Canon releases a free EOS E1 video plug-in for Apple’s Final Cut Pro. The plug-in is compatible with Final Cut Pro 6 or higher and currently supports Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D and EOS 1D Mark IV cameras.
This new plug-in allows simple and easy transfer of video content from Canon’s EOS DSLR cameras directly into Final Cut Pro. The EOS E1 video plug-in takes advantage of Final Cut Pro’s powerful Log and Transfer feature, which allows users to select and mark the video directly while it is still on the camera, add custom metadata and ingest the clips in the background so the editing can begin immediately.
The EOS E1 video plug-in is a free download and will be available here but so far, they haven’t posted it yet. We’ll let you know when they do.

Canon Introduces MPEG-2 Full HD Codec
Canon on Tuesday said it would be releasing an MPEG-2 Full HD (4:2:2) file-based recording codec that would debut in an unannounced but upcoming professional video camera from the company. The MPEG-2 Codec would bring with it twice the color resolution of the HDV profile format and be compatible with industry-standard editing and processing software. The codec would also have 50Mbps data recording speeds.
The new format would let users record 1920×1080 HD videos and include the open-source Material eXchange Format (MXF) used by broadcasters to edit recorded content. To make the system widely and quickly accepted, Canon is working with Adobe, Apple, Avid Technology and Grass Valley.
File-based recording, including the one in Canon's new codec, is flexible as it can be used across a wide range of editing software and applications.

If a new VDSLR is released next February 8th, it will probably have the MPEG-2 Full HD Codec
That’s pretty nice, BUT LET’S HOPE Canon also announce the 5D Mark II firmware soon, and take care of what they already achieved.
We are NOT satisfied with the way the 5D Mark II features and firmware have been managed.
Indeed, there wasn’t a professional treatment to the customers either.
Especially considering we are talking about a $2,700 best seller body-only which kept selling for more than 1 year at the same price, and the fact that those customers and users are not simply hobbyists, but serious amateurs and professionals instead.
It was HUGELY adopted by lot of videographers and professional studios.
Once again we are waiting, and some information coming INSIDE Canon doesn’t look good indeed.
– CANON: KEEP the 720p60 mode in the upcoming firmware. And FIX those so easy to fix features like AGC, etc…

i wish canon or microsoft would release an update so that i can view 5DII RAW files in the thumbnailviewer….am i alone on that one?

I REALLY hope canon also keeps fixing the photography features.
Like the stupid shutterspeed minimum when using AV. It sets shutter to slow for sharp pics! No way to correct unless you go full M.

Have you played around with the option in the menu system to change the way shutter speed with flash in AV mode is determined?
I could care less if that cheapo consumer 5DII gets a codec firmware update but Canon better make it available for their flagship professional Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. I spent $5000 bucks and I deserve the best!
But if you don’t have a flash attached?
A (very simple) fix to limit Av shutter speeds, AutoISO selectable values on “M” mode.. would be SO EASY and so helpful for lot of still shooters!!
Also an AutoISO limit on every mode is more than a “want”, it’s a NEED.
5D Mark II, 7D and 1D Mark IV have almost the same potential regarding video. (Dual Digic 4 is to make possible faster on-the-fly noise reduction and faster burst mode, not for video)
So we all (1D4, 5D2, 7D) deserve improvements.
ALL the improvements we are requesting so hard and for so long to the 5D Mark II has directly benefited (and will) the rest.
That’s why it’s so important to join requesting.

Don’t get me wrong. I think the 5DII is a cute little camera for people who like to sit around in their double wide trailer homes taking photos of kitty cats. I just don’t think they need a high resolution video feature for that as they can’t afford the equipment it would take to view them properly.

I doubt this CODEC is meant for SLR cameras.
It’s more like for a Handicam style video camera.
It would be cool if it was though.
I’m hoping it will appear in a replacement for the XL series – soon. HDV is seriously limiting on a camera capable of so much resolution.
Kinda sucks to spend $5000 and the 5d II still beats it in ISO and Image quality.. haha
