  • I’ve been waiting a long time for the SD10w IS. I hope it’s true, and I hope it has an HD movie mode too.

  • 1. That would be really nice to get something waterproof from Canon :) Hope this camera won’t need to get completely dry after every 30 min of use underwater (like Samsung)

    2. Finally TOUCHSCREEN from Canon :D wandering how functional it would be? It’s better be NOT like Nikon S60 (it’s totally #$@% !!!) :)

  • Errr.. the SX1 IS is not worth waiting for. In places where it’s available, the price is a lot steeper than the SX10 IS, but its image quality is not any better.

  • Hej, pff canon totally going the wrong way, the first one is just another IXUS 85-90, the second one with stupid touchscreen (argh) and maybe the underwater camera can be nice, but an IXUS with no manual controls.

And of course no replacements for the nice A590 (expected, but wwe can’t be sure) and no very cheap A480 IS.

  • yvesson, I agree with you about Canon going the wrong way.

I’ve just finished a good serious look at the Canon (and other) compact line for a Christmas gift. I ended up with deciding upon the A590 as the “lost the least number of features” replacement for an A80.

And now the A590 is being discontinued and not replaced.

Apparently, it is lost upon Canon that a P&S with an optical viewfinder and manual controls is what facilitates a P&S photographer to do more than ‘snapshots’ and thus develop his skills so that he is then more interested in moving upmarket to buy a dSLR…which means more revenue potential for Canon.

    -hh

  • I shared hundreds ( or thousands??)of Powershot A series enthusiastists dissapointment over canon decision on srapping the manual exposure controls in their so called latest A series line up.

It is such a wonderful camera with full manual control over it, and now if you want a small camera with that function, Canon G10 is the only choice you have (not forgetting the hefty price tag!)

  • Hej, imo the SX110 is that A serie last model. But next disappointment is a canon “TZ5” in september. :/

  • 2.8 vs 2.5 inch screen

    4fps vs 1.4fps continous shooting

    Remote vs NO remote

    Full 1080p at 30fps vs 640×480 at 30fps

CMOS vs CCD (waiting for Gordon Laing at Camera Labs for his SX1 IS review to see if the quality is any better)

I think it will be worth wating for. I have done the math and if Canon prices the SX1 IS the same as they did in the UK it shold be no more than $500 USD NOT $700

  • Hej, the screen of SX1 is 16/9, not only that it sucks as a ratio, but you just have that extra width difference, useless for pics, that is. Unfortunately no 4/3 video mode more than 640×480, though it’s possible, nor 60fps mode as old powershots used to have, instead sucky 16/9 full HD. Continous shooting = good, but all pics I have seen SX1 CMOS < SX10 CCD for picture quality.

  • I am going to need to see pictures taken in the same place with the same lighting to see if the CMOS sensor in the SX1 is any better than the CCD in the SX10. Hopefully as I said above Camera Labs or some other camera review site will put the SX1 and SX10 head to head. As of now I can’t see how a CCD could beat the CMOS sensor in the SX1. Only time will tell.

  • Seeing as the PSA470 is being discountined, that leaves no sub $150 PowerShot in the range-making the $199 E1 the entry level model.

Sony makes some very slim touchscreen cameras models (eg. DSC-T77/T700) -would the SD3000IS be quite slim?

I’m guessing it won’t use folding optical lens design, though

  • The ONLY thing that would interest me in buying any pocketable powershot would be HDvideo. Heck the TX1 had it in 2007! Whichever between Nikon and Canon comes out with one would have my $$. We passed on upgrading our SD800is for that very reason this Xmas.

  • Hej, Really boring… No IS, no manual modes, no viewfinder, to sum up : nothing new, even it’s more expensive than A470 when it came out. F3.0/F5.8, have they done as bad in the past ?
Seems canon doesn’t wanna sell cameras anymore.

  • DIGIC IV and 3.0 inch LCD is nice feauture, My blue color and sd1200 body is pretty and small. new camera compact modify from sd1100is.
