They Still Exist!
I’ve received word that Canon Canada has received more stock of the Rebel XS and is allocating the camera to dealers.

No discontinuation for the moment.

  • This is a typical example of “rumors” you should NEVER have posted.

    First take a minute to have feedbacks from other sources and only then, post that something may be discontinued.

    Here you did 2 posts (one to say it could be discontinued and one to say it is not), for NOTHING.

    Do not complain if with such poor rumors, people start making poor comments.

  • I completely agree with Again.

    A few days ago CR complained about the bad quality of the comments but we could also complain about the bad quality of the rumors.

    Do not post everything if you only have CR1 level…

  • rumors are rumors. how can you verify a rumor until the company itself announces it?

    the CR guy specifically has a coding system: CR1, CR2, CR3, to inform people whether it’s a serious rumor or just some flippance. one way or the other, you can choose to ignore it.

    I don’t understand where some people get this sense of entitlement, that you’re obligated to only getting the truth, but you’re going to get it before anyone else.

    fat chance. if you want nothing but what’s totally confirmed, you can just go check Canon’s own webpage for that.

    other people manage to take what’s written and form their own opinions, not merely lash out when a heads up from the CR guy doesn’t materialize exactly the way you’d hoped.

  • Mediamark/Saturn (big deal in europe) said that it´s discontinued and they can´t order it no longer. That was last week.

  • People check this site to get an idea of future developments in Canon EOS stuff. Of course, there are a lot of false leads that never pan out and some stuff is a stretch. For a rumors site, this is entertainment as much as serious industry watching. This is something everyone has to judge themselves for credibility.

    As for *bad quality* of comments, there’s been a lot of disrespectful and non-constructive posts in the last few weeks which clutters up the site and provides no value. I am in total favor of the administrator editing comments and/or banning certain posters.

    There’s a big difference in posting “buzz” heard for everyone’s consideration versus the disrespectful, sarcastic and non-productive comments that get posted that wastes everyone’s time.

  • +1

    exactly. there’s no rule that says the CR guy HAS to let this place become a shouting board for everybody to run willy nilly.

    that’s what your own neighborhood is for. don’t shout anything online you’d be embarrassed to shout out your own window at home.

  • I bought the XS (1000D) in January for $440 and it’s never been cheaper since. Methinks I got a good deal.

  • Its his site, he can do whatever he wants with it. If you don’t like what he posts, you don’t have to come here. No one’s holding a gun to your head (at least, I hope not).

    I keep coming back to the 1000D when I think about whether to get a micro 4/3 camera. Sure, the 1000D is much bigger but the ones that Olympus and Panasonic have released are pretty chunky as it is (at least for me). Might as well get an LX3 if I were to get something compact. And for the price, I’m not really too thrilled with them. At least I’ve already got lenses for the 1000D and it costs much less.

  • im guessing they gona release 2000D and 60D together? guessing somewhere before christmas since both of them are nicely priced for xmas gifts

  • the 2000d will be released alone. it will be a scaled down version of the 500d. 15mp with digic IV, 7 focus points, 3fps per second raw and jpg, and 720p video.

    the 60d will get its own release in 18 months cycle. it will get a new processor, focusing system along with the video feature and the speed will be kept at 6fps. the body will stay the same and the camera may shift to SD.

    this are my own predections. Please start flamming.

  • I love (I mean “10v3”) these comments! Soon the CR-comments will be just as fruitful as the comments over at failblog.org. Let us rejoice in all the glorious ways to dull the intellect!

  • in less than a year Canon line up of DSLRs will look like this:

    * 1Dn new unified Ds & D series in 1.6x crop factor, so that they have no problem with EF-S lenses like 7D.

    * 7D already there

    * 5D II already there (last model in its series after 1 or 2 years will be discontinued for good)

    * 550D replacement of 500D

    gone with the dodo’s by then are:

    1Ds, 1D, xxD, xxxxD series.

  • you sound like jack catastrophe. these predictions make little to no sense based on any market trends or even Canon behavior.

    smells like … troll meat
