SmallRig Launches Full Cage for the Canon EOS R1

SmallRig has finally launched their full cage for the Canon EOS R1, we're not sure what took so long, as they're usually first to market for these sorts of things.

I can been using SmallRig cages since the EOS R5. I don't use them as video rigs very often, but I do like how it has taken more of the hits in the field than the cameras have. I also dislike camera straps in the field and much prefer using a top handle.

Cages aren't for everyone, lots of people prefer L-brackets, or find the cage adds too much size and weight to the camera. Those are all valid preferences, but a cage can be more that just for video rigs.

SmallRig EOS R1 Cage 5413 Overview

SmallRig Cage for Canon EOS R1 5413 enhances protection and expandability while maintaining full functionality. Featuring an integrated, full-cover construction specifically engineered for the EOS R1, this cage offers comprehensive protection while ensuring unobstructed access to all buttons for smooth operation.

The cage boasts a three-point locking system, using a bottom 1/4″-20 screw and dual side locating blocks to secure the camera and prevent deflection, while built-in silicone pads protect the camera from scratches.

Both the bottom and left sides incorporate built-in Arca-Swiss quick release plates, ensuring compatibility with Arca-type tripods (ID 4059) The bottom plate can be directly mounted to DJI RS 2 / RSC 2 / RS 3 / RS 3 Pro / RS 4 / RS 4 Pro gimbals, enabling quick switching between landscape and portrait orientations for rapid scene transitions.

The package includes an detachable cold shoe mount, allowing horizontal cold shoe mounting in both shooting orientations. The cage also features multiple expansion interfaces, including 1/4″-20 threaded holes, 1/4″-20 & 3/8″-16 ARRI locating holes, cold shoe mounts, strap slots, and QD sockets. These interfaces support various accessories such as handles (ID 3765, 4015), shoulder straps (ID PSC2428), and wrist straps (ID 3848).
