Something not quite as exciting
I was sent an email suggesting what's actually going to be happening. Canon is going to release an official 5D Mark II/24-70 f/2.8L kit. It won't be an IS version of the lens.

That'll make the 24-70 a lot cheaper.

Is this good or bad news? Well it depends how you look at it. Is this a sign Canon is going to be clearing out stock of the 24-70 to prepare for an updated version? That seems logical.

For now, I'd say no 24-70 f/2.8L IS for PMA. I'll keep looking and asking though.

Also, I still keep my hopes for Canon to make a firmware update to allow full (or at least many) Manual controls on Movie mode. That would make my mind up to buy it, along with other Canon Glasses, instead of waiting and buy Nikon glasses (to get Aperture control in Movie mode)

How long will you wait for the firmware update? THOUSANDS of people are requesting it.

If you Really “listen to” customers, you should give it available VERY soon…

  2. oh come on now… you know they’ll never put that in a firmware upgrade… that’ll be in the new 1D series… that way people will have the extra incentive too blow thousands extra for the pro body

  3. this is fine by me. the sooner people start buying these in kits, the sooner they’ll be dumping the NIB 24-70s on B&S forums (just as people did with the 24-105s that came in the 5D2 kits). nothing wrong with picking up a NIB 24-70 for a couple hundred off retail.

    =^)

  4. What is the time frame for 24-70 in kits? I’m picking up my 5D mkII today and haven’t decided yet if I’ll go for the kit or get the 24-70 “on the side”.

BTW, the body currently sells for 24 000 SEK which with todays exchange rate calculates to 2 637 USD.

  5. “It says, that they were suprised too when Canon gave them price list, but later Canon confirmed this item!”

What the …? Who lied? Definately bad news…
