Canon has announced new firmware for a wide array of Cinema cameras. The EOS R5 C, EOS C50, EOS C70, EOS C80 and EOS C400 will all get feature updates. I do love that Canon is still working to improve older cameras like the EOS C70 and EOS R5 C.

I'm not jealous or anything, it's not like I want any improvements to the EOS R1. I don't think I have heard anyone that is looking for new feature updates for the EOS R5 Mark II. </s>

Major Firmware Highlights

  • Improvement in Live Production Power: The EOS C400 camera now supports Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation to overcome iris ramping, compensating for light-loss during zooms.
  • Remote Operation Enhanced Connectivity: New USB control protocols for the EOS C400, C80, and C50 cameras allow for remote operation of REC Start/Stop, Iris, Shutter, ISO, and Focus functions.
  • Stream Reliability: Improved SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) workflows feature auto-reconnection capabilities if a streaming signal is momentarily lost.
  • Enhanced User Interface: A new “Level” display on select models changes color when the camera is perfectly leveled, speeding up setup for gimbal and tripod work.

Firmware Release Date

The new firmware for the above cameras will come at some point between June and September of 2026.

  1. This has been the most used lens in all BBC, National Geographic, etc, natural history documentaries for years.

I could definitely see it being used for Planet Earth type of stuff. They needed something like this to get that amazing birds of paradise footage.

  2. I'm not seeing any mention of the R5C in any of Canon's announcements. Can anyone point me towards a specific mention of the R5C? Curious as to what a new firmware would bring beyond bug fixes.
