It looks like Canon USA is going to try and get into the NFT space. Launching soon, is Cadabra, an online curated marketplace.

We're not overly enthusiastic about NFTs due to the amount of nonsense that surrounds them. That said, we'll keep an open mind about what Canon USA has planned for Cadabra.

Cadabra is a curated photography marketplace from Canon U.S.A., Inc. that offers a selection of digital art (NFTs) from innovative creators. The Cadabra marketplace aims to empower creators by connecting them to enthusiastic collectors who celebrate the art of photography through a shared appreciation for these digital artworks

  1. Do people still take NFTs seriously? People lost billions in the burst of the NFT bubble. Some people were really surprised when they learned that a pixelated cartoon photo of a monkey is not really worth $200,000.

At the moment I see the ridiculous high fees of minting an NFT as a major problem. When the hype started, I decided to create some NFTs. I created some high resolution TIFFs that might work nice a large scale prints. My idea was to sell 100 of each for $5 per piece or so. Then I found out though that I had to pay about $80 per NFT to mint it. That seems like a great scam to me that will only make the NFT platforms rich. So of course every company wants to create an NFT platform.

It is the same with crypto currencies. The only people who can still get rich through crypto are the owners of the platforms that receive a lot of fees even if the value of crypto goes down.
  2. Cadabra was the original name for Amazon, who changed it at the last minute because it was terrible. Leave it to C to pull it out of the dustbin. LOL
  3. Add a Cadabra.... Hocus Pocus, everything goes poof!

Seriously though, who bewitched Canon execs to make this passe idea a reality? Come on Canon, I bought your stuff so you can R&D and come out with better gear, not some tried and failed money laundering scheme.
  4. This might be a way to sweeten the pot for Canon Explorers. Become an explorer and we will help you create a new revenue stream by minting NFTs of your pictures. (Which no one will buy).
  5. I was thinking of migrating from the EF-M system to RF sometime, but my next camera will be a Sony I decided.
That's an... original way of choosing a camera that suits your needs.

Congratulations on your mistake. You may now depart and troll the Sony site.

But at least it's decisive and done with confidence. That's all that matters, right?
